Wireless connectivity problem

I have Toshiba e800. I want to use my mobile (Sony Ericsson T610) as a wireless modem. That is what I do:

1. Switch my PDA and phone on
2. Pair both devices by Bluetooth.
3. On PDA I go to Start> Setting > Connections which opens the window where Beam, Connections, Network Cards are located.
4. I tap Connections icon which takes me to
My ISP
Add a new modem connection
My Work Network
Add a new modem connection
Add a new VPN server connection
Edit my proxy server
Manage existing connections
5. I then open add a new modem connection from “My ISP” which takes me to
Enter a name for the connection
Here I enter the name of my ISP provider
Select a modem
I select Bluetooth Card of three selections (Bluetooth Card, Generic IrDa and Hayes compatible on COM1
6. I then press next which takes me to enter the number exactly as it should be dialled. Include any extra numbers, such as an outside line or credit card. As I am using calling card thus I enter the access number (020x xxx xxxxx), the PIN (xxx xxx xxxx),,, the ISP access number (08xx xxxxxxxxx) and go to next.
7. Here I add my user name and password provided by my ISP.
8. Now I make connection with my Sony Ericsson T610. My mobile shows dialling up the number but nothing happens, and I get message “No modem at above number. To check your connection settings and change them if needs settings”.
9. I have re-entered it so many times but result is nil.
10. I have tried to access ISP directly by dialling up from my mobile. It does connect.
11. The potential problem is probably in inserting comas (,,,,,) between multiple access number when I add information in my PDA. These comas are not read as spaces by my mobile.
12. I have exactly the same problem when I try using my mobile with my Laptop (Toshiba Satellite 1110).
13. I also have a modem card. I did try to access the ISP by using modem card in both computers. Result was excellent.
14. It appears that spaces which I add between multiple access numbers are readable on landline access but for some strange reason these are not read by mobile phone.
Will someone give me step to step instruction (idiot guide) how to overcome this problem.
I understand that if we press star for a longer period on Sony Ericsson, it appears ‘p’ and is used as pause between multiple number entries.

I did more research and figured it out that the actual problem is not the pauses. It is rather making the proper use of “use dialling rules” when making a new connection. It appears that my PDA is set to default US setting and to make it usable in other countries you have to use the dialling rules. I found this site very useful, though it is more relevant to In IR enabled devices.

http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/faq.jsp?service=UK&from=faq_selection&CFID=PDA&FID=TIU0000001311

I issue is still unresolved which is stopping me to make connection with my ISP. When using the “use dialling rules” you go to
“Enter the name for the connection” and “Select a modem field”. Obviously I entered the name and selected the Bluetooth Card as modem selection. Then I clicked the next button which took me to country/region code; area code and phone number. The field’s NEXT command button remained disabled unless I put information about the AREA CODE. Whereas on the “help” there are no such information about this problem, and the instructions are “In the code box enter the area code. Area codes are not needed in all countries.” I wonder if this is the case then why the next command is disabled.
This is stopping me to proceed further.
Any clues? Thank you.

The easiest way to make this way is to not to use the dialing rules. Then you simply the full number as you want it dialed on the corresponding field.

If you really want to use the dialing rules (which I don't recommend), first you have to set the area code for your Pocket PC. This is done on Contacts. Tap Tools | Options and you'll see a field where you enter the Pocket PC area and country codes. Use the area code corresponding to your mobile phone and the corresponding country code. Only then you'll be able to correctly configure the Dialing Rules.

Thank you for your reply.
Yes I have realised that, I am still unable to instruct my phone to dial via my PDA. I have just checked it in the phone Bluetooth service list that only two services are enabled at present – Object push and file transfer. I wonder the absence of dial up from the service list may be causing the problem. If this is the case then how can this service be enabled on my phone. I keep on refreshing it but it is not showing. Perhaps a Bluetooth driver is missing.

Nope, no driver is required. The T610 does have DUN service, it should work ok. If it's not working, I recommend checking for firmware upgrades - the T610 had a couple of updates after launching.

I have been to the following site and found quite a few things to be downloaded. Furthermore they are meant for PC whereas I have a problem with my phone. Please advise me which item should be downloaded.

All those software are for PC only, and will not help with your problem. You might have to take your T610 to a Sony Ericsson repair center to check the firmware update.

I have bought SE- K700i Problem still exists.
Problem using SE700i as stand alone modem
I can use my phone as a stand alone modem (wired or wireless BT) only if I use one ISP access number. It does not connect if I use multiple numbers by separating them with coma command. I understand that pauses between different numbers in one string can be made by inserting,,,,,. For some reason my mobile does not take “pause” command by using coma rule.
On the other hand I do not have problem using pause rule one I use phone’s own key pad. (Pause can be attained by pressing * key longer until ‘p’ appear. This ‘p’ means pause.)
Can anyone suggests where is the problem and how it can be resolved. So far I have narrowed down that problem is only with SE700i which does not accept pause command via PC, Laptop, and PDA. Perhaps I need to use another command instead of coma, or perhaps SE700i needs firmware update. As I have bought my mobile very recently, its software is well updated.

I don't understand... Why you need the pause when using dial-up? Unless you have to enter an access code (which is only used on calling cards), you can't determine a series of numbers to dial if one fails.

Also, just because the phone is new it doesn't mean the firmware is up to date. The mobile could have been in a warehouse for months before being sent to a store where it stayed there for another month before reaching the buyer...

Firmware installed is RZAA003

I do not want the direct access to my ISP as it cost rediculous if you access them directly from mobile. I have bought another phone service which give me competitive access tot he ISP number. Thus as a first step I need to access the local number of my telephone company which will direct my ISP number to its destination.
I did try the same method with in-built nodems which do not present any problems at all and I am able to access the destination number regardless how many strings I uses in between. If the method is workable with ordanry modem, it sould work with mobile phone becuase dialing principles are the same. Besides I can use pause rule when I dial it from phone keypad which suggestes that problem is somewhere in SE700i when it takes commands from the other device.

I have narrowed down the problem. Infact "," (the coma command for pause) is not read by SE 700i. However if I put "p" instead of "," the first number in the string is diald up. When it goes to dailing the second number which is the ISP access number this message appears on SE 700i screen "sending tones failed".
Any suggestions please.
