I have been trying for over a year to send/receive email via bluetooth/IR with my Nokia 6310i, to no avail. Everything goes nicely until I actually try to send. Then I get a PPP timeout (0x1231). What can I do, I'm going insane?

Do you have a data account associated with this mobile phone? What operator are you using? What service you're trying to use (GPRS, standard dial up to a ISP)?

No data account. Operator is O2. I have set up GPRS but the PDA also says "GPRS setup needed". I really want to set it up for email.

I presume GPRS is only available if you have a data account (or something similar). You might want to check with O2 if you can use GPRS with your mobile.

I know I can. It is one of the phones the PDA has drivers for.

The drivers on the PDA don't mean you can actually use GPRS. This is set by O2 in your account. Please check with then that you can use GPRS.

Then you have find on your phone's configuration what is the configuration for the GPRS access. If you have multiple configuration one your phone you have to find which one is the Internet one (not WAP!).

The number will then be used as the dial number on your Palm. The dial number is *99***x#, where x is the sequence of your configuration. You will end up with a number like *99***1# for example:

The username is mobileweb and password is password .

Also, you might have to enter a init string, where you'll enter the APN name. The GPRS APN on O2 UK is mobile.o2.co.uk. So your init string is +CGDCONT=1,,"mobile.o2.co.uk". For example:

Please check this guide for more step-by-step instructions.

If you can receive mail but not send it is possible that your smtp server requires authentication. ask your isp.
