I am selling my IPAQ and want to clear all the data. I have tried hard resetting (holding down the two outer keys - calender and itask and pressing the reset button for five seconds) to no avail. I get the default Compaq screen plus a chime after five seconds but the data does not clear. I suspect that I must have previously selected an option to store data in ROM but cannot figure out how to clear it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Marc

Look in the Start | Settings for an option for automatic backup of PIM (can't remember the name now, my iPAQ has the new OS version). Uncheck that, soft reset. Then using file explorer delete any files in the ROM Storage. Hard reset again...

Mauricio

Thanks for your reply.

I have cleared the Permanent PIM (Start/System/Settings/PermanentPim) and soft rebooted.
Using File Explorer I cannot see a ROM Directory or Store. In File Explorer under MY DEVICE my options are IPAQ File Store, My Documents, Programs, Temp and Windows.
Does the IPAQ File Store represent the ROM?

Yes, that's the ROM. You can now hard reset the h3970 again and see if that removes the information.

A hard reset is the way to go. From memory on the 3970 you hold down the outer two PIM buttons, the power button and hold the reset hole in with the stylus at the same time til the screen fades away
