What's up with the headset? For such a capable phone it certainly came with an utterly rubbish set! I realise it's not aimed at the multimedia users but wouldn't hurt them to include a more comfortable headset - this one takes the cake for one of the crappiest headsets I've ever used so far. Even my cheap older clamshell Nokia (can't remember the model) came with much more comfortable earphones.

It seems there are not that many choices of wired headsets available for the 2.5mm Nokia sockets around here. Has anyone found any?

You can always get one of the small adaptors to change it from 2.5 to 3.5, Dick Smith etc sell them.

Overall, I am disappointed with all the headsets that Nokia include with their devices. Have yet to come across a nice one.

I've had a 6234, 6121, E65, E66, N73, both N95 and now a 5800 and every included headset has been average. I've a ugly bluetooth headset for work (so I can use it for calls) and a pair of Skullcandy headphones for other tines.

We must be two of the rare people who actually listen to radio - unfortunately using a 2.5->3.5 adaptor utterly ruins the radio reception, not to mention when the phone rings and you have to answer it.

I'm surprised there are not many 3rd party wired headsets for Nokia phones - having said that I think I've seen a couple at some exhorbitant prices. We're not audiophiles so sound quality does not have to be sterling but at least the earphones should be comfortable.

Try TradeMe for a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor that has a short length of wire between the plug and the sokcet, the one DSE sells sticks out rigidly and will stress your phones socket if knocked or pressed against.

not too sure on the E71 but most cellphones have their socket slightly recessed, meaning the DSE adapter is no good. Aswell as for the reasons scott mentioned.

The Nokia included headsets have always been plain awful, usually very bad sounding, inefficient as well as just being of amazingly poor quality with wildly varying designs, configurations and lanyards.

I like the simple small earbuds common in the late 90's with equal lengths from the mic to each ear, the "round the back of the neck" ones always just tangle and have the laft earphone fall out all the time.

I'm surprised nobody has come up with good quality 2.5MM headphones that have a small switch in the mic bit for the 4 plug wiring standards. (CDMA/GSM/China/LG)

Can anyone confirm how loud the output of the E71 is? I'm utterly dissapointed with the 6121 classic's hopelessly quiet headphone level.

Pretty good, I don't run it at full volume put it that way.

Yea I agree, its is pretty good. I used to run it quite loud, due to LOTS of clubbing in the UK 10 years ago making me quite deaf, its one of the better devices for "loudness" IMO.

Funny enough, the Nokia 5800 is average in that regard, when played through headphones. Better quality, just not that loud.

Awesome, some of the better head/earphones sound great but are not overly efficient although anything has to be better than those horrible default headsets. I have found the Nokia sound levels to wildly vary between devices.

When getting an adaptor, make sure it's guaranteed to work on the E71 and be mindful of quality as some of the cheap plugs can be very hard on the phone sockets.

OT slightly but I saw small Sony Ericsson speakers than run off the phone output directly, if I could hitch that up to a nice set of full sized headphones that would solve any problems.
