Hello, I am glad I found your blog.   I was thinking of upgrading to the Pantech Matrix Pro and have read some discouraging message posts out there indicating people could not get the phone Application Unlocked to use with Google Maps or other non-carrier specific applications.

Has anyone upgraded to this phone yet, and what are yourr stories regarding the application unlock?  If I can't get it app unlocked it's pretty much a deal-breaker for me since I don't want or need the turn-by-turn navigation instructions (and don't want to pay extra), and would prefer a GPS fix using Google Maps or Windows Live Search.

Thank you in advance!
Richard

Hello Richard

You can install applications on the Matrix Pro - the only requirement (for security) is that it should be a signed application. As such, Google Maps you use in your example, works perfectly on the device.

I only had mine SIM unlocked, but most application from known sources are signed application and will run without problem on this device.

Thank you very much for your reply!    This has made my decision a little bit clearer.
