If you are the same person who posted on the Vodafone forums, you should tell the whole story...

You wrote there "the guy i got it off said "after he upgraded to windows mobile 6.1, the signal and service just disappeared...?" so i have tried config page on vodafone website, but nothing seems to make the signal come back... everything else works fine EXCEPT FOR "NO VODAFONE SERVICE ON THE PHONE, and NO SOUND"

Reality is... You bought a brick. If the seller listed it as "non-working" then you might be out of luck. Or you could see if the seller will refund.

Why call vodafone you were given advice last night its the handset end of story. What would you expect a csr to do? You purchased a lemon

Alex...

Is the phone working now, or not?

Ok, so you called a landline. Is still working since then?

What john meant was "why call Vodafone" - he probably thought you called Vodafone for support, which we now know is not the case.

Since the guy who sold said the "service disappeared" it could be two things then:

1. The phone could be locked to 3G only, which means that if you don't have 3G coverage then it wouldn't connect to 2G. When you go somewhere with 3G coverage it works again. You will have to look on the Phone application for an option that locks it to "UMTS Only". Open the phone application by clicking the green button, tap Menu | Options | Others and there is a "BAND" option there.

2.The phone has the wrong radio ROM. If this is the case then it won't work until it's fixed. It seems you don't know how to fix it, so you have to send for repairs - which will costs something, it's not free.

K ill tell you whats up to clear out things!

NOW i got the phone from trademe right? the guy said it sometimes works when the sims inside for along time (BUT VERY RARLY) no service for most of the time.!

THATS what happened this morning, it said "instead of no service - It said UMTS - vodafone nz"

but when i turned it off and put it on again it went back to " NO service..."

so i dont really know whats up...its really weird...

ALTHOUGH HE DID SAY HE REPLACED/upgraded SOME PART ON THE PHONE HARDWARE...

Thanks mate, ill try what you said about the settings. ITS WM 6.1 btw

If the phone stopped working after the seller upgraded to WM6.1 why not just flash it again or see if you can flash it back to WM6.

You should be able to find out how to do this on the HTC website?

There's a reason why it was so cheap and it sounds like you knew that before you bought it. As suggested, there are many guides online for doing the steps suggested. A "wiz" like you should have no problem doing that.
