Hi is anyone able to help me?

I have a Blackberry 8839 WE which until recently was connected to the Telecom CDMA network. I have since upgraded to a newer Blackberry on the XT network. My question is, can I unlock my old 8830 and use it on the Vodafone network, using some sort of "unlock code", and if so, where do acquire this "code"? Help would be much appreciated, thanks.

No. Your old Blackberry is a CDMA device. Vodafone is a GSM/WCDMA network. These are different and incompatible technologies.

BB 8830 is a CDMA/GSM WorldMode phone.

Hmmm, now I'm REALLY confused... ...my phone does have a Sim Card slot for roaming overseas, and it is switchable between GSM and 1xEVDO... just not sure whether it can be "unlocked" to work on the Vodafone NZ network

AS stated in the above 2 posts, it is a CDMA world mode phone, although there is a sim slot it is for worldmode roaming only. Second. The blackberry "pin" is registered to telecom and blackberry will not re allocate the pin from one telco to another. ie brought an 8830 from sprint USA tried to get it on telecom, telecom were willing to allocate the esn to its network however blackberry would not allocate the PIN, as a result I would not be able to use email

Okay... does this mean that I may be able to contact TELECOM for the pin number to allow me to use this phone on the Vodafone network? As I paid the full price for this phone when I bought it i.e. no term plan discount.

There is a whole thread about unlocking here, if you want to follow, the GSM will work on Vodafone, as the network is 900/1800 band. How would you like to use it that's a different story, may be only SMS and calls, no full BB functionality. However if you have data plan, even the $1.00 a day one, you can use it, just no messenger service, push email can be achieved with funambol. Here is a thread on unlocking, and for the rest google 'blackberry without BIS/BES' should give you result on top. Good luck.
