Have you look at the Nokia section in our Bluetooth Guides?

The Nokia will access the internet through the mRouter software. If you can use the Nokia PC Suite then you can access the internet the same way.

Some software don't like this though. Opera 6 and the builtin e-mail client don't work with this. Netfront for Nokia works fine.

No configurations on the phone required. Or at least one Connection must be defined. It will not be used but I think it's needed to load some drivers. If you have at least one GPRS configuration then it's all ok.

On you PC side, do you have a personal firewall running?

The Nokia's default e-mail and browser will not work with the internet sharing (not in my experience).

Other browsers work (try Netfront and you'll see).

Also, do you have a personal firewall (Zone Alarm, NIS) or the Windows XP firewall enabled? If so, turn it off, and try again. If it works, then you have to configure a rule to allow mRouter access to the internet. This is frequently seen and overlooked.

Netfront will just give you browser functionality. You can try looking for other software at Handango.

Can someone who has this working on their 3650 please let me know exactly how their access point is defined? I've tried this and run into a serious problem...

After much working with this, I 'thought' I had it working, but I had this thought at the back of my head that the connection may not actually have been going through my desktop, but instead through AT&T (my wireless carrier). I had specifically deleted the two access points they had defined in my phone prior to doing this testing.

They have a web page for displaying the 'current' charges, but it isn't live, and I actually had to wait 2 days for this info to post, and sure enough, I'd apparently run up almost $20 in data charges (my plan doesn't include any data). Obviously, I'm going to attempt to fight this, but would appreciate any info from others on how exactly the phone should be set up.

Also, I have a Mac (Mac OS 10.2.6, latest BT software, etc). There is mRouter software available, but it doesn't have the fancy on screen indicators that the PC version has via Nokia PC Suite (I suppose since this package hasn't yet been ported to the Mac), and obviously all the talk of COM ports is a bit foreign to the Mac, so things get that much more involved here. Any Mac specific setup instructions would be greatly appreciated if anyone has this working on this platform.

When using the mobile through the mRouter you'll notice that you either don't have the G or the G with a box around in the upper left corner of your mobile's screen.

If the G with a box shows there, then you're using your GPRS connection instead. Mind you, not all software will work with this mRouter connection. The builtin browser and the builtin e-mail program don't. Opera doesn't either, but I've found WorldMate, NetFront Access and Action Engine do.

I didn't do any special configuration. Actually I didn't even create another one.

Well, that does help slightly, I know what to look for on the phone now. And I can delete Opera. ;)

I'll try this out again next week and see what happens.

Hi guys,

I'm using n-gage, I followed the steps instructed in the guides, it seems that my bluetooth lan is always "cable unplugged", but I can connect to the pc using pc suite and use mrouter. I shared the internet connection to the bluetooth lan. The software does support network acces profile but I just cannot get my bluetooth lan "plugged in"
I'm using widcomm 1.3.2.7 software
any ideas?

For Symbian devices the internet sharing is done completely through the mRouter software. The "Network cable unplugged" can appear if your Network Access services is set to "Allow other devices to create a private network", as in the image below (access this by right-clicking the Bluetooth icon, then Advanced Configuration and switch to the Local Services tab):

It's not a problem really...

I've had success, but I did create a connection profile on the 3650 first.

Make sure your connection is paired and your Lan connection is configured to share with the Bluetooth Network via ICS. The "My Bluetooth Serial Port" should be active and connected.

I found the following as part of the Share2Blue2th connection script readme for OS X - it works with the PC too.

On your 3650, go to Tools:Settings and choose the Connections settings tab. Click on Access Points, a screen should come up with your available access points. Click Options: New Access Point and Use Default settings. Change the connection name to the name of your computer as it appears in the paired devices list on your phone. Change the Access Point name to the same name. Leave everything else the same.

Now navigate back to the connenction settings and select GPRS. In the Access Point field I typed in the name of my PC as it appears in the paired devices list.

When I tried connecting via AvantGo or Netfront or Doris Browser I get to choose the access point I defined earlier, and the connection seems much faster. The Nokia Services App doesn't list my access point, only MMS and t-zones, so it doesn't seem to work.

I embarked on this quest mainly to sync Avantgo via my LAN, and it has worked fine for me.

A no time when using my Access Point does the little "G" icon appear at the top left corner of the screen.
