I am writing this on my Ipaq 1910. I have been surfing the web on the same unit through the Irda port as the sync/charge cable connector disconnected from the bottom of the device. I can charge it with a modified connector from an R/C battery. I can sync. through the Irda port and web surf as well with the aid of a desktop computer. Can I use a 3rd party Irda modem w/o the use of Activesync running on a computer as a stand alone setup or am I forever tied to the desktop? I would appreciate any assistance you could give.

I can't say i've ever seen a stand alone IRDA modem/router - but there a still a few cellphones out there - particularly Nokia - that incorporate IR and allow the phone to be used for tehthered data.
