I'm in the US, working for a company that offices worldwide. Somebody told somebody told a bean counter that "Verizon said" that BlackBerry is available in the "Far East." To us that means Japan, not Korea or the Philippines.

My understanding is that there is no GSM (or other BB compat network) in Japan.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Sandi

Hi Sandi,

You're correct, there are no GSM/GPRS networks in Japan. Both NTT Docomo and Vodafone operate a 2G PDC network (PDC is a standard similar to but incompatible with GSM) as well as a 3G WCDMA network.

Therefore your Blackberry won't work in Japan.
