I know this probaby been covered before

My question is whos cage do you rattle to get latest firmware to install-Why because it is my understanding is you need the latest firmware to install free Ovi maps when they become availible

I have Nokia N85 (Telecom) firmware says up to date ver 20.175 and I know there have been updates.

Use the Nokia Software Updater which is part of the Nokia PC Suite, you need a USB cable to do it also

Have done this but both methods say latest firmware installed my understanding telecom/vodafone can lock phone updates.
I want to know how to get them to allow firmware update (ie who do you ask)

Its up to the provider (Telecom or Vodafone) to approve the new firmware for the NZ product code. I guess that also means updating / applying the appropriate themes / brandings to the updated firmware.

You can change the product code to a non-branded phones code and then get the new firmware, but no guarantee it will be fully compatiable with all the NZ features and won't have the provider branding. (some Vodafone live stuff requires the NZ firmware) No idea about XT though or what changes Telecom make to the firmware for NZ.
