I have a v551 phone, and I want to use it as the modem for my laptop. I've saw in other threads to use the information:

Enter # exactly as dialed: *99# [ asterisknineninepound ]
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1

My phone connect to the internet at the rate of 115.2kbps. Now I wanted to just use my home dial up through the phone but do not know how to do this. I have Motorola Phone Tools program. Could someone please tell me how to use my home dial up through my phone and also, tell me how I will get charged for using the above information. Thanks.

Welcome to Geekzone... The packet data (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS,CDMA 1x) is charged on its traffic. The connection you want to do (dial up to an ISP) will be a CSD (Circuit Switched) connection, very similar to a modem call on a landline.

CSD connections are limited in speed (most at 9.6kbps, some at 14.4kbps) and charged on a per minute basis since a connection is established over the same circuits that woud be used for a voice call.

Most operators these days don't offer the option of CSD anymore. If Cingular does, make sure it will be coming out of your minutes allowance, not charged per minute in a separate tab.

Thanks for the info, from the sounds of this I don't want to use my isp internet. What kind of package do I want to use for the GPRS thing, I think I want unlimited data package. Thanks again.

I think cingular will have an unlimited package or something pretty close to that. You will have to contact them or a store near you to see this. You don't want to use casual data rates because it will cost you a lot more.
