Hi all,

I've recently bought new JAMin and have an annoying problem. When it's on battery power, it doesn't go into standby / sleep mode propertly. What happens is: after 30 seconds (or as configured) the backlight turns off, then after 1 minute (or as configured) the device tries to go into standby: the screen blanks out momentarilly then everything comes back to life: no stadnby. It will happily do this all day.

BUT this only happens when the device is unlocked. If it's locked, all proceeds normally.

ALSO I have noticed that if I stop the backlight from turning off after 30 seconds - it works correctly (locked and unlocked).

I've been communicating with the i-mate support people, but with no resolution so far. I've upgraded to the latest ROM/extROM on the website - hasn't helped. No after several emails they tell me I don't have the latest version and to upgrade again! Grr. Of course the files on the website haven't changed - so I'm not going to do that.

Has any one else had this problem? I'm now asking for a replacement device - but it would be great to fix it and not reinstall everything.

Thanks!
David.

Are you using a SD card? If yes, don't install any program that is likely to keep files open by the time the Pocket PC is supposed to go to sleep. This includes programs with Today plug-ins.

This happened with an SD card, and without any 3rd party apps installed. So I think the device is munched.

Since there's no apps installed, can you do a hard reset please? And do not restore any backups from the old ROM (if you had a program such as SPB Backup, etc)!

I have plenty of apps installed now :-).

After I reinstalled the OS based on the instructions on www.clubimate.com I did a hard reset - so 100% sure I had the most up to date configuration, with a hard reset, and no 3rd party apps. This is assuming their instructions were correct. I saw a post here from another person who did not follow step (2) of their instructions and seems to be having success (not the same problem as I'm having thought).

I resolved this issue - thought I'd post the info here.

The club i-mate JAMin support section has the "latest" ROMs available for download. I can't check anymore, but I'm pretty sure new JAMins come with an out of day ROM.

The download page has two steps; step 1 is to download the latest ROM which is ruu_JAMin_213923_2139122_022021_noskype_wwe_ship.zip. If you follow this step by downloading and installing this ROM, it will give you the versions (see Settings | System | Device Information):

ROM: 2.13.9.23 WWE
Ext Rom: 2.13.9.123.

These versions are correct and are the most up-to-date versions supplied by i-mate.

HOWEVER, there is a step 2 to this process which instructs you to download VodaNZJAMin_1.0.9.114.zip and install it. DO NOT FOLLOW THIS STEP!!! If you do, you'll end up with an Ext. ROM version of 1.0.9.114 which OLD! Club i-mate technical support confirmed this Ext. Rom version is old.

I have contacted i-mate support and asked them to revise their instructions regarding step 2 as I don't want other users to have the same problem as me!

So just follow step 1.
