I still haven't participated in any group raids yet; with the exception of Tyranitar and Jolteon, I have enough of what is being offered from the higher levels.

I am most interested in Magikarp, Bayleaf and Croconaw raids at the moment (to a) get a shiny Karp, b) a female Croconaw and c) candy)

Going through my list of Pokemon last night, I need to correct my naming scheme for some of the Pokemon - all Pokemon caught before the release of Gen 2 I added L/ in front of my naming convention to stand for Legacy. However only some of them have actual Legacy movesets (like some Snorlax and Dragonite), so I need to remove this L/ and update their moveset rankings for the new "meta"

I am wondering, given that there are some mid-level evolutions like Quilava and Bayleef in this batch of raids, whether we won't get Pupitar and Charmeleon later on (for example). That would help people who can't get a big enough group together for the fully evolved versions to take down a few at mid-level and then evolve them. You can pinap a raid boss, if you're brave enough. My son has caught three Tyranitar - the first he golden raspberried, the second he pinaped, and the third he used a nanab, lol. All first-ball catches. I'm so proud :)

I spent ages working out Unicode characters that would work on Pokemon Go for iOS and finally got a naming convention that works. First three or four letters of the Pokemon's name, then IV, then the symbol for the type of the quick move, followed by a two-letter abbreviation, then the same for the charged move. This helps me pick my boss attackers, but I've hit a small snag - I can't see them on my phone. Need to take glasses to raids.

Got invited to a Facebook Messenger group for organising raids in Dunedin; went out last night and joined 7/8 others in a Tyranitar raid.

I noticed that as I started the raid, I had 127 seconds to pick my team (rather than 120 seconds) and when the battle started I only had 167 (ish) seconds for the battle - not sure if that was due to the number of people or some issue on my phone/automatic time and date settings

The raid was won pretty quickly, but as the only Instinct player in the group I only had 6 balls to try and capture Tyranitar - a combination of cold hands, wet phone screen and general incompetence saw 4 balls miss/get deflected and 2 escape attempts, resulting in no Tyranitar for me (I have enough candies to evolve another so no big deal - it looked like this one had Fire Blast as its charge move)

What really annoyed me - 10 revives was my only reward from the battle

Raid rewards seem to be highly variable. Ranging from minimal through to a whole heap of items including TM's. Seems to be about as variable as spinning pokestops. No real connection that I've noticed to the raid battle.

Raid Chat in Upper Hutt is similarly useful though. Coordinating groups and having a wider coverage of what is appearing in the area rather than just what you can see near you.

You didn't get any golden berries or XP?

Every raid I've done has netted me at least one golden berry and 3000 XP, I haven't received any TM's yet.

Yes, got the XP (that is a fixed reward and not variable/random like everything else)

10 revives only .. even though Tier 1/2 raids only give a few items, I normally get 1 rare candy ..

That was a poor item drop, for sure! The chance of getting TMs goes up with the raid level, but it's still not guaranteed. I've done a few 3 and 4 raids over the last few days and got TMs for everything, whereas others in my party got nothing. It's just the rub of the green, I think. I'm sitting on 4 fast and 2 charged at the moment, but I'm hesitant to use them right now. I have enough decent Machamps and Tyranitars now that I don't need to tinker with them, and I'm waiting to see what else will become useful if the raid bosses rotate soon. I know Golem is going to be invaluable for Legendary raids, and I have a bunch from the rock event with a whole combination of movesets, although only one with double rock. They might be next on the TM hitlist. My sister and son went out raiding yesterday while I was working, and had great fun battling a Quilava with an army of Phanpys, which I imagine would have looked very comical. I'm quite keen to try a solo raid on a Machamp. I have enough good psychic attackers (and a Hurricane Dragonite) that I think I could give him a run for his money.

Meet up at lunchtime with 3 others to do a Rhydon raid; not the most exciting in the world but can't always get to Tyranitar raids

Defeated and captured (this time there were three Instinct players - and owned the gym, so 13 balls, only needed 2) and got my first Fast and Charge TM - now to decide what Pokemon to use it on, as I think I have so many options.

Question though - I thought the Pokemon you captured afterwards had the same moveset as the raid version ..
However the raid Pokemon was using Stone Edge while I captured one with Megahorn ...

The game continues to troll players.

Yesterday I joined 4 others to take on a Snorlax but could not catch it with the 13 balls that I received. An hour later a Snorlax hatched from a 10K egg.

Today, I've had 2 pokemon return after spending the night in gyms but no candy! Apparently this bug has now been fixed.

Don't know if I can get out of the house at 4am on Sunday - so may miss a bit of "world-wide" event.

No, the raid boss will have different IVs and moveset for every player. My sister, my son and I caught a Machamp the other day and I got Bullet Punch/Dynamic Punch while they got Counter/Close Combat and Counter/Dynamic Punch.

I'm sitting on 5 fast and 2 charged TMs at the moment, which are additional to those I've already used. There's nothing I think is worth changing in my team at the moment. I've fixed both my Steel Wing Dragonites now, and I have a good range of the Pokemon that are good in the current meta. I'm tempted to hang onto them in case the raid bosses change and I need to fix something that isn't currently on the "best counters" list. My issue now is stardust and candy. I would like to max out a few things but am short of candy and only have 240,000 stardust in total.

I want to power up some more Pokemon (this time focusing on Gen 2), but with the new meta around gyms and how hard it can be to get stardust, i'm not sure if I should do the upgrades.
(and if I do, do I go all way to Pokemon Level 30 as I have been doing or go to Level 25)

Time to make one of my famous lists and put far too much thought into a mobile game!

2 months to save, ~30 minutes to spend 600k stardust

Powered up some Gen 2 Pokemon from Level 20 to Level 30 that I thought were worthy of the candy/stardust; working on another list of potentials from Generation 1 (though I know I'll be going under 1.5 million dust again if I do everythings on the list)

I am thinking that I am going to use my fast TM to change Bullet Punch/Close Combat Machamp into what should be Counter/Close Combat Machamp - as long as I am reading the current/non Legacy moveset lists correctly (there should only be two options)

I was going to use my charge TM on Ampharos as I currently have Charge Beam/Focus Blast.
However it seems that Charge Beam is not a very good fast move so changing one move will still leave me with a sub-optimal moveset.

Off the top of my head, one of the other major charge move contenders is Meganium as all three I have are stuck with Earthquake. Again, changing the charge move will still leave me with a sub-optimal moveset .. so im not sure

Actually, Charge Beam and Focus Blast is Ampharos' best moveset at 100% DPS, whereas Volt Switch and Focus Blast is 92% DPS. Charge Beam is weaker than Volt Switch but faster, so does more damage overall. Personally I hate Volt Switch because it's so slow it makes dodging very difficult. I've sent all my Volt Switch Jolteons to the Professor :)

Definitely use your fast on Machamp. Counter/Close Combat is 94% DPS and only Dynamic Punch moves rank better.

New app version for Android is out; main feature is the ability to remotely view a gym you have a Pokemon in, and then feed berries.
They advise it is not as effective as feeding berries in person, but its a good way to get stardust and XP.

Took about 12 hours after I downloaded the new APK for the remote feeding to be enabled server side.

However of course the new version has introduced a number of new bugs - as a Instinct player I now get Valors leader appraising my Pokemon and when viewing a Pokemon that is in a gym, it unfavourites them

Few other small QOL updates though, including the number of coins earned on a returning Pokemon now shows in the journal

Did another Tyranitar raid last night with 5 others - easy to win, but even with 12 balls I wasn't able to capture Tyranitar - first ball escapes every time even with a Golden Razz and a few excellent throws
And no TMs for the completion of the raid - 16 revives and a few rare candies was the reward..

I've had about a 50/50 success rate with Tyranitar, whereas every Lapras has run away from me. I just can't time his attack animation right, so I often waste balls when trying to catch him. The app update has just come out for iOS but the remote feeding function isn't working for me yet. I like being able to see the coins in the journal, but having the 'favourite' drop off a Pokemon when I view it in a gym is super annoying. I am paranoid I'm going to have an accident!
