littleheaven: I started playing as something to do with my son that would get us out of the house. Now I’m more into it than him, lol.
I did the same with my Poke-geek daughter who lasted all of 4 months playing it. I'm over a year in, halfway through L36 with only Unown to find for the NZ dex.

littleheaven: Mine’s littleheaven70. I play in Glenfield and Bayview too. I’m Mystic L36. I’ve seen you in gyms, KiwiMurray :) There’s a Mystic player called YJPRNN that I used to see in every gym and assume he was a bot or spoofer, and then he joined our raid crew. We were like, “oh, you’re real!”
I love the collecting aspect of the game and trying to get the best Pokémon so I can do raids to collect more Pokémon. It gets me out and active and also makes waiting at places like the doctors far more fun (they’re on a Pokestop). I’ve discovered so many parks I never knew existed. I started playing as something to do with my son that would get us out of the house. Now I’m more into it than him, lol.
Ah yes, I've seen you in gyms too, littleheaven70! There are a couple of other local players, BernieBum and RedTaurus, that I see in a lot of local gyms but have never met.
If you ever get tired of Pokemon Go and want another game that gets you out and exploring your local area (with a real emphasis on "exploring") then have a look at a game called Munzee. You play with an app on your phone and use the app to find little stickers with QR codes that have been placed all around the place. Different sorts of stickers are worth different points, there are hundreds of badges that can be earned for different achievements, you can play for free or spend money (up to you), you can play by yourself or join a clan and have monthly battles. It's a bit like geocaching but more urban and there are thousands of munzees all over the North Shore, chances are pretty good that you've already got some munzees in your street!

littleheaven: I’ve seen BernieBum too - whenever I try to spend a few hours in the Leigh Reserve gym he boots me straight back out :) Munzee sounds right up my alley. I will check it out.
Leigh Reserve is the closest one to my home (I live on Valecrest Place, off Witherford Drive, off Manuka Road) so I often detour by it on my way to and from work. I usually only last an hour or so in that gym before BernieBum and RedTaurus boot me out, so I think they must live nearby.
Let me know what you think of Munzee, I'd be interested to hear what a new player thinks of it. There are several North Shore players and 330,000 players worldwide. It's good fun, especially if you have kids as they like to hunt for the munzee (most aren't really hidden and so are easy to find, but some can be fiendish, especially the ones that are in reserves and parks).

littleheaven: I’m also off Witheford :) Our area needs more stops and gyms, for sure. One of our raid crew is a high-level Ingress player so he’s submitting some more portals in the hope they get pulled through.
Hi neighbour! Yes, a local gym that could be walked to in a few minutes would be nice. I'm down a long drive but I can just reach the bottom of Valecrest Place from my lounge and so can catch the pokemon that pops up there every hour on the hour.
You should definitely check out Munzee, you probably have several in your street (unless it's a little street, there's a minimum distance requirement between munzees). Munzee have events just like Pokemon Go, where they release new special munzees that randomly appear all over the world and are only available during the event. There will probably be a Halloween event at the end of the month, so now would be a good time to start.

littleheaven: My son and I have tried to download Munzee but then couldn’t get through the signup process because it froze, but will try again in the weekend to get it working :)
It might be easier to sign up via their website rather than in the app, then you can go to the app and just log in.

littleheaven: Cool, I’m in. Will report back later :)
Yell out if you get stuck or have any questions. Once you get signed up and logged in on the app the first thing you should do is tap on the "Filter" option underneath the map and then go into "Physicals" and tap the "All" button at the bottom and then the "Save" button. Then do the same but go into "Virtuals" and turn them all on too. By default for new players I think they only show "greenies", which are just the basic type of munzee, and none of the many other types (they probably don't want new players to be overwhelmed).
So did it take anyone more than half a day to collect the 5 new ones plus another hatted Pikachu?
Seemed fairly underwhelming, but new stuff is new stuff.
Completed the Ghost badge in the first 5 mins as I only needed one more. And making use of the increased Pikachu spawn to work on that badge.
We (my sister, son and I) made a pact that we wouldn't evolve Dusklops or Bannette until the last day of the event, just to draw it out a little, and to see if we could catch a wild one first. Caught Dusklops last night, so just Bannette to go. Have been catching loads of Pikaboo and I took advantage of the double candy to transfer a couple of my worst IV legendaries. I hope something interesting happens in November so we don't all die of boredom before Gen3 drops. I have a feeling Mewtwo/Ho-oh raids will go properly live.

Took me a couple of days to get the new pokemon, Sableye was a bit elusive to start with.
I actually like the idea of drip-feeding gen 3, I'd be happy with one new pokemon per day over a couple of months, would help to keep the interest up.
Something is afoot today - new spawn points have popped up in my street (the same ones that appeared for the Equinox event) and quite a few people have caught shiny Duskulls.
