Damn, I really should not have posted that number on this forum, as I keep on getting random requests from people to be friends.

4 days in and I have decided that I need to trim the list down to be 20-30 people maximum; in the current state, the list is far too hard to manage and I have more gifts to open than I can open in a given day (20 item open maximum per day)
I'll keep some random internationals on there so I can get their Alolan eggs with international location tags for local trading purposes, but then when I am done with those eggs .. then they are gone as well.

littleheaven - I thought turning off the notifications would stop all those notifications, however it was pointed out to me that these are push notifications and not the on screen ... there is no way to turn off those on screen notifications .. and I wish there was ..

Oh, right! And apparently the in-game notifications are what triggers the XP reward, so I guess you need to keep them. Darn.

You can refresh your trainer code if you want to stop the random invites, I think.

I am at around 60 friends and it's more than enough. That's most of my raid group (including alt accounts, in some cases) and a few overseas people from the Trainer Tips Patreon Discord group. I found a good idea on The Silph Road about using Notes on iOS to list all my friends' names with a tick box beside them. At the beginning of the day, I untick everyone, then just flick the app open and tick them if I send a gift or raid/battle with them. I can scroll back through my notifications to see who has opened a gift from me since midnight, tick them off the list, and then decide who out of the rest I really want to interact with that day. It's ridiculous to have to resort to doing that in a third-party app, but it's quick and relatively painless and helps me decide who to give my remaining gifts to and open gifts from at the end of the day.

So last night I spent a painful 80 ish minutes pruning my in-game friends list from 120 to 56
Everytime I deleted someone it would error, then refresh the list back to the top so I would have to then scroll back down, waiting for the list to refresh every time ...
I still have approx ~15 random internationals on the list that will need to go once Alolan eggs use their value - with the nerf on Tuesday of the gift sizes seems to have also affected egg drops from gifts. I am using the majority of my 20 gifts opens a day trying to get international eggs to drop .. and it just isn't happening. As a result I've been forced to get regular eggs from Pokestops (all 5km) ..

You may have also seen my post on TSR - managed to get Good Friend status 2 days earlier than I should be able to .. some have suggested time zones are the cause
I guess when this person comes back from the USA I can see if we have synced our status and if we get any bonus (I want one of his Tauros ...)

Has anyone here reset their trainer code?

I noticed my LA friend has been levelling faster than any of my NZ ones. I'm hoping my Mewtwo raid today will sync me up better with some that have stopped registering actions. I haven't reset my code but Trainer Tips (the YouTuber) has done it multiple times, because he's been friending a few people and someone leaked his first one.

I really wish we could hold more than 5 gifts at once. I can't go out to spin stops repeatedly, so I have to resort to picking them up with the Gotcha while out driving and stopping every few minutes to send them so I can collect more.

Yeah, that changed either yesterday or this morning. Now a 10 gift limit.

Yeah, it changed a few hours after I posted, lol. Friendship levelling is still horribly broken. Raided with someone today who levelled up to great friends against me while I stayed stuck at one day past good friends. I'm going to accept a gift from him after midnight tonight and see if it syncs us up. Waiting impatiently for shiny Roselia to drop. I thought it would come with the Global Challenge today when the spawn points increased, but so far no luck.

If you don't follow one of the many official Pokemon Go twitter accounts, it seems you are SOL if you actually want to get notification when things start, when things are broken, when things end etc etc.

It would seem as if the Global Challenge for Asia-Pacific started at 10am Saturday in New Zealand (so 7am in Japan) and we had managed to complete it within 9 or so hours ..
And while it would seem that Roselia and extra spawn points arrived at the same time, shiny Roselia did not appear in the game until the Dortmund Safari Zone event started (around 7pm New Zealand Saturday).
Then due to the mess that was day 1 of the Safari Zone, they increased shiny spawn rates around the world ..

I managed to get several without really trying ... Roselia is already pretty common, and due to either boosted rates or weather boosting on Sunday I got my first shiny about 10 minutes into my manual hunt and then managed to get a second driving home with the GoPlus (both females though, so I guess I need a male ... not that I evolve shinies)

Waiting to see how this Articuno Day on Saturday works out - heard it will be at the same Communiday Day times (3-6pm) on Saturday, so as it doesn't interfere with Community Day on Sunday
How we get our five free raid passes .. and if we are guaranteed to get an shiny Articuno within those 5 attempts .. who knows
And I guess .. how will the raids actually work in that period.
So many questions!!

So uh, bugger!

Put my jacket in the wash this morning, forgot to check the pockets and now I have 1/2 a GoPlus (official) .. while the front and battery are currently MIA somewhere in the washing machine.
Sadly it doesn't look like I can get anymore locally and I don't trust any 3rd party sellers on websites not to be selling cheap KO's ...

Combine that with the fact that my Go-tcha seems to be on the way out due to battery issues ..
Maybe I will open the Aliexpress Go Plus I do have and just see how terrible it actually is (the packaging looks very suspect!)

Managed to find the button half of the GoPlus, so hopefully after a few days (I'll give it until Friday) and a new battery, I can get it working.
If not, my order from the Pokemon Company of 2x GoPlus via my USA shipping address was confirmed as shipped so I have a new one in a few weeks.

Details are out via the website and in-app news of the Articuno event on Saturday (3-6pm local time) and confirming the exclusive moveset and a chance to get Squirtle with Glasses via quests
Also Friendship is resolved - now when a friend opens your gift, you will get notification if you both go up a level and several gifts I opened had me jumping 4-5 days worth of friendships, so I am now great friends with a bunch of people.

Oh, that's bad luck with the Go Plus. Fingers crossed it can be resurrected. I'm with you - I want more detail about how the raids will work on Saturday. Will every gym have a permanent Articuno raid at it? Will the shiny rates be even higher than normal shiny legendaries?

Thank goodness friendship levelling is fixed. I managed to get a lucky egg on and get to Great Friends with 5 people (two of whom were displaying as several days off) by evolving eggs from people I was pretty sure I had interacted with every day. So that was a nice 100,000 XP.

Well that was an enjoyable, yet busy weekend.

We had organised a few cars for the Saturday raiding, but when the Articunos arrived with 3 hour timers we abandoned the driving part of the plan and just walked.
Hit 19 gyms in 3 hours, caught 14 of the 19 Articuno and finally got some specimens in the 90%+ IV range (best from the last time was 89%).
Sadly no shiny for myself (or several others).

Started community day at the local Botanic Gardens, but after claiming as many research tasks as possible, left as there were hardly any Squirtles.
Ended the day with 8 regular shinys along with 16 shinies with sunglasses.
Evolved a regular 98% to get the exclusive move, along with a 98% regular with sunglasses. Once again did not enough a shiny .. I have a 96% with sunglasses, but I am not a general fan of the sunglasses..

Guess in a few weeks we will know if we will be getting Zapdos and then Moltres in these 3 hour raid periods ..
Not sure if I can do 19 again though

Yeah, it was a crazy weekend for sure! It would have been good to know ahead of time how the Articuno raids were going to work, as we would have situated ourselves in a more gym-dense area to start with. As a result we lost a bit of time at the start, but managed 21 raids in total (I missed two due to network errors and driving to the wrong location at one point, lol). Nonetheless, I caught quite a few Articuno (none were very good and I think only two regular ones survived the grinder) and got two shinies. Just as well, as my sister accidentally transferred hers during her evening admin session, because it looked so similar to the standard model, and she wasn't paying close enough attention. So now one of them will go to her when we reach best friends status. My son caught his with 30 minutes left, which was stressful for all concerned.

Squirtle Day was much more relaxing. We didn't realise until about two hours in that the shiny glasses variety was pokestop-specific. Our little walking group hadn't found a single one until we moved to a slightly different part of the Takapuna main street (down by the boat ramp) and then we all got four in quick succession. I ended with my normal six wild-caught shinies. Evolved a shiny Blastoise and Wartortle with sunnies, then evolved the wrong wild-caught shiny to Blastoise, and two regular squirtles to Hydro Cannon Blastoise. After the event finished I evolved the non-sunnies shiny I was supposed to evolve (they're useless anyway so moveset is a bit redundant really) and a Wartortle or two so I had one of each of the evolution line of both shiny variants.

Next weekend is the global research challenge again, and shiny Plusle & Minun. Let's hope they get the spawn hours right this time. I'm looking forward to the stardust rewards next week too!

Hmmm, things are afoot in-game with a lot of 3D models just discovered in the network traffic by reliable data-miner Chrales: Smeargle, Nincada, Ninjask, Shedinja, Clamperl, Huntail, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys. I've been thinking for a few weeks that the ultra bonus after all the summer tour events will be a 3-hour Mewtwo raid day, and that will bring to an end Mewtwo as an EX raid boss. People are theorising that he will be replaced by Deoxys (and arguing about whether Deoxys is legendary or mythical).

This weekend will be exciting with shiny Plusle & Minun, Alolan Geodude and Diglett, and "Trapinch, Feebas, and other Pokémon featured in the habitats of Pokémon GO Fest". I'm a bit underwhelmed with the candy rewards for this round of the Global Research Challenge, but I'm assuming we'll unlock either Moltres or Zapdos next. I'm also curious what's going to happen between GoFest this weekend and Yokosuka at the end of August, as the Summer Tour promo video mentioned four cities and four events. But if that's the case, what's the fourth bonus reward - maybe all three birds at once for an afternoon? A good chance for those who missed the shiny to get one.
