Someone was theorising that the stack actually comprises every field research encounter you've ever earned, lol.

Oh god no!
I don't know how many actual Pokemon encounters I have done, but I have done over 3200 Research tasks .. and I do prioritise encounters ...
I don't think I can handle trying to catch another 2000 Pokemon (I estimate I have done somewhere around 900-1000 since Saturday, based on the number of Pokeballs I have had to restock)

You'll be sorted next time there's triple catch XP or stardust :)

In other news, all aboard the hype train for Generation 4 with today's new that Gen4 is "coming soon" along with a rework of weather and CP/HP/Def

The weather reword has me interested as the spawns in the various weather seem to be the same and it's only in events do we see some of the spawns that should be in that weather (with cloudy, it is hard or impossible to find Snubbull or Grimer; in sunny it's impossible to find Houndour and Growlithe etc); though I wonder if its more to do with those places that only have one type of weather for most of the year (ie, Southern California and "sunny") and never see some of the other common spawns ..

Hopefully the CP etc rework does make some more Pokemon "meta relevant" though I still don't think it will save some of my Pokemon from being traded away to a new home

I'm also very interested in the overall spawn changes. One of my main complaints is that when there are no events on, it's usually the same ten Pokemon everywhere, which is SO boring. They appear to be promising a greater variety of spawns in general, and particularly in parks and nature reserves (one of which I live right next two, and often drift onto the walking tracks). I'm wondering if nests will now have better Pokemon or a variety rather than just one species. Someone on TSR speculated about "type nests" with a range of common, rare, and very rare spawns from a certain type (e.g., Geodude, Onix, Larvitar).

I hope the CP rework doesn't mess with the IVs - I assume that they are just adjusting the weighting for Defence and HP within the CP formula, or adjusting the base Defence/HP totals for certain Pokemon (or maybe a combination of both), but the appraisal should hopefully stay the same. I'd love for some of my other Pokemon to become useful besides the normal gang of Machamp/Tyranitar/Mewtwo/Rayquaza/Raikou/Kyogre (and Blissey/Chansey/Snorlax in gyms). A lot of the fun in raids is being able to use a range of attackers. I've had lots of fun using my legacy Gengar against Focus Blast Mewtwo over the last week (although it still gets hammered if Mewtwo has Confusion) and I'd love to give some of the others a turn without losing too much in the way of damage contribution.

Since Gen 4 is so small, I wonder if they'll just give us the lot in one go. They're getting better at keeping the game interesting without having to rely on releasing new Pokemon in dribs and drabs, so I don't think they necessarily need to eke it out like they did with Gen 3. It'll be interesting to see how quickly all these changes roll out. I hope they do the CP change very soon, because otherwise clearing out space for Beldum day is going to be a very uncertain process. Better still, they finally give us more storage and we don't have to throw away anything. I have about 20 hatched regionals that can go, but I've caught another 20 Mewtwo since my last big (and quite brutal) cull that aren't going anywhere until after it finishes being a raid boss and I can make some final choices.

Beldum day clashes with Armageddon Expo, but thankfully the person I want to see has panels on Saturday and Monday, so I don't have to go at all on Sunday. I am hoping against hope that they will have Unown spawns there as they did in Wellington. They replied to me on Facebook after the Wellington event to say there wouldn't be Unown in Auckland - apparently it's all up to Niantic and not the event organiser (I thought they could just book them for the event like a bouncy castle or something). But if it's up to Niantic then perhaps, given the number of times NZ has received Unown spawns (once), they might decide to bestow them upon us for the weekend.

So I did not see that coming, update 0.123.1 with Gen4 stuff basically ready to go as soon as the app update is forced for everyone.

It's been quite an exciting day, that's for sure. Looks like everything is in place bar one or two tiny details... and maybe some evolution items? I don't expect to see Gen 4 this week, though, because yesterday's announcement said that they were going to do the CP rework, weather and spawn mechanic changes "in preparation" for Sinnoh, so I expect them to come first. But it must be pretty close, because they can do the preparatory stuff server-side pretty quickly. It's possible we'll see Gen 4 after the Psychic Spectacular ends.

Was having dinner at my parents' place last night when my sister momentarily drifted in range of a wild Blissey on her iPad, so there was a mad scramble as me, her, and my son all ran from the house with our phones to catch it. L32 and C grade. After trading it with my son, his became B Grade and mine A Grade, so we were pretty happy with that. I'm not sure I've ever encountered one in the wild before.

Does anyone have a pokemon go plus they would want to sell (I have posted in the wanted forum too but this is probably the best place to ask)?

So app version 0.123.1 has brought back the research stack issue; claiming a Pokemon encounter reward freezes the game for ~a minute, then it chucks you back to the research page without seeing the encounter.
I can only assume that the Pokemon appears in the research stack, but as I am still claiming the "infinite" research rewards, I don't know when I will get to the back of the stack.

Have downgraded back to 0.119.4 for now ..

What a strange ~26 hours

CP/stat changes went live and then didn't; rebalances to the spawn pool and a nest migration (I assume only for a couple of days) and then some Generation 4 Pokemon released at around 4am/5am this morning ..

Loving the new spawn pool, it's great to take a walk with the dogs in cloudy weather and see more than just the same 6-8 Pokemon all the time

I am going to take a "wait and see" approach to Gen 4 and not going to rush to evolve anything - more about collecting candy at the moment

There is quite a lot of information to digest

Yes, it's been mad. I really want to know if the new stats make anything new useful before I do a cull in preparation for community day (and possibly Unowns at Armageddon). I see more storage is promised in today's announcement but it needs to hurry up! Otherwise my trade stash is going in the grinder (apart from the very oldest things).

The new spawns are cool. So nice to find things like Mareep thrown in with the normal rubbish.

Also, Mewtwo needs to leave now so I don't feel compelled to keep raiding it. I've got more than 40, and that doesn't include the ones I have rerolled and then transferred when they came out rubbish. Once it's finished, I can do a stocktake and decide who gets to stay.

I am eagerly awaiting the Halloween event. So many potential shinies! I expect we'll get the Gen 4 ghosts and I really hope we get the Lavender Town theme back. Loved that.

I wonder if nests once again changed when Gen 4 was released, and will then again change tomorrow at 1pm (0.00 UTC)..
I sadly had a 96% Mewtwo run from me on Monday, but I made up for it with a 98% Female Kirlia on the next raid (and gold gym badge). Did my second Deoxys raid as well yesterday; sadly not much better than the first at 84% so will need to do more EX eligible gyms when I get back from Europe.

I actually hope they DON'T do a Halloween event .. in an effort to shake things up between the years. Just because we had one in the last two years, doesn't mean we need to repeat the same thing every year (I also don't want an event that overrides my chance to get Torkoal in Dubai when I pass through or European Mr Mimes ...)

Halloween is my favourite event of the year. Love the ghosty spawns. But I hope, if they do, they make sure they boost the regionals like they did during the Psychic event (and not completely drown them out like in the Kanto event).

I got Deoxys #2 yesterday as well - at least this one was A grade but still only 82%. Not that it's useful anyway, but it'd still nice to have a good one. I'm sitting on 3 x 98% Mewtwo and several more above 90%. I need to sort out movesets and things. I TMd all my Focus Blast to Shadow Ball when I had the chance, so would like to get that on a few of the new additions, plus some pure Psychic and a couple of ice (although it looks like Mamoswine is going to be a beast, so no need for too many ice Mewtwo). I might just leave one with fire for collectability's sake.

So, how's the Gen 4 experience?

I am catching as many of the starters as possible for candy; I am also trading as many as possible for a) extra candy and a chance at getting a lucky.
I did manage to get a perfect Chimchar (not lucky) via a trade, which softened the blow of not being able to leave work for a perfect earlier in the day

Yeah, going pretty well. I think I've caught all the catchable ones so far. My first Piplup was a level 30 that I rerolled with my son and ended up with a 91%. I'm also catching as many starters as possible for candy. If I find a perfect I will save for a future community day, I think, and evolve the next best one :) Yet to raid a Shinx or hatch any new eggs, but I've managed to clear my old eggs out now.

A young guy in our raid group has been account swapping with overseas players to trade regionals. We keep telling him he's an idiot for sharing his details, not to mention it's cheating. He had a Carnivine by lunchtime yesterday. Then last night he logged in and discovered that his L40 account was gone, replaced by a L1 with a slightly different trainer name. He'd disappeared from everyone's friends list. One of the group remembers seeing an unfamiliar trainer name pop up in their friend list during the evening, and then disappear completely. The young guy swore he hadn't given anyone his login, only used other people's logins, but when he checked his Google account, he'd had logins from Canada and Germany within the last 6 hours. It appears someone logged in, linked the account to their own alternate login, deleted the original login, changed the trainer nickname, and then defriended everyone. And then either created a L1 account on the original login, or it could be one from that bug a while back where people were being redirected to create a new account. But either way, I doubt he's getting his account back. It's definitely stolen, possibly on-sold. I feel so very sorry for the guy, but it's not like he wasn't warned by multiple people on more than one occasion.

Doesn't look like we're getting a Halloween event this weekend. Probably on the 23rd when Mewtwo leaves and (hopefully) Giratina arrives. I'm crossing my fingers for Unown at Armageddon, and frantically trying to clear enough space for Beldum day. I can guarantee as soon as I've ditched some stuff I didn't really want to, the storage upgrades will become available.

Another Pokemon community day that ends up with a crying child. He didn't catch a single shiny which he might have coped with if us two adults got one each: the last and penultimate Beldums we caught.

At least we got to see all the the Hutt City Carnival of Lights displays without the crowds of people that turn up - it finishes tomorrow night. Many of the displays were just as interesting in daylight.
