After a six year break from gaming thanks to generally being too knackered (small children/young family) I'm getting back on the horse with an Xbox One X for Christmas. sealed

I'm looking at filling in some of the gaps from the past few years with second hand games and see that some people on Trade Me are selling digital download codes rather than physical discs.

How does that work in practice?

Are you allowed to re-sell a digital copy if it's been uninstalled or will the download code be permanently locked to particular account once it has been activated for the first time?

locked to that account.  people usually sell codes they get in console packages for games they dont want to already have.

Yeh, there was one guy on trademe i kept reporting for selling accounts with digital games attached to it. Apart from the fact its easy for them to revoke the games after the sale has gone through, its against both MS Terms of service and trademe's im pretty sure to, so i would avoid. If its the actual peice of paper, with a code printed on it, that hasn't been redeemed, then once you redeem that it is tied to your account. its possible too, that they can gift games to them selves with stolen, and sell the codes that that way, MS normally picks up on those, and bans the accounts that have redeemed them. avoid sites like G2a too, where the pricing is too often good to be true. Try you local cash converters or similar too, they often have cheap games.
