Oh, yes... Blame on MySpace, blame on games:

Three Auckland teenagers were killed when the vehicle they were in crashed off the Northwestern Motorway in Auckland during a high-speed police pursuit on Christmas Eve.

National's transport spokesman Maurice Williamson says today's young people think they are bullet-proof. He blames Playstations and X-boxes for making teens think they can drive stupidly and just push the reset button if anything goes wrong.

Nothing about people drinking and driving... But those malignant game consoles you got your kids for Christmas... Oh, those are bad... Yeah, right.

Knowing how everything in New Zealand seems to be now solved with "ban", I wonder how long before a MP proposes "ban video games to increase road safety".

The last line in the article is the only thing I actually agree on: "Mr Williamson believes 15 is far too young to be behind the wheel of a car."...

Perhaps instead of banning gaming they should simply enforce an age limit?
"You must be 30 Years of age to be able to purchase, rent, borrow or use gaming consoles, game software.."

But seriously, 15 is too young.

Mo's got some rather eccentric views when it comes to technology. That's why he's National's spokesman in that area.

I actually thought they'd been playing computer games while driving. Now that I would readily believe...

actually he is on the right road but the wrong direction.

Like pilots a car simulator to clock up the road miles plus pratical tests would better equip our youngsters.

I play quake etc and my reaction times through playing these games is quicker thanks to the games. (Im am way over 20)

This was simplier you brain being mush to much booze nothing else and making stupid decisions driver education at a younger age is needed.

Hahaha, I myself watched the segment in 3 news about this on Tuesday and had a hearty chuckle!

What amused me was that they don't even know if the driver played or even owned a gaming console.

Some people think the solution to everything is a ban.

Why can't a polititian do some research, find an actual correlation between road safety and video games and then try to boost public awareness?

Answer: Because they're polititians.

hmm, yes. i dont believe it though. no one would actaully be that stupid. i know, in games i always die, and then be able to respawn.Like theres this game called wolfenstein: ET (mmog) i played, then i saw the movie: saving private ryan. Now, movies arent really known to be realistic, very dramaticalized and fake. but this movie was the real deal. so after playing this game, which has some of the scenes in SPR, it was humbling. some troops might go to war thinking they can respawn. hopefully in heaven.

haha thats crazy like an article i saw on slashdot!

BUt I think it has more to do with the attitude of the person rather than the games themselves as i used to play way too much midtown madness 1 and 2 and im not a maniac on the road!

well if u said 'i used to play midtown madness' i can  understand why. if the game was old it probably wasnt as reallistic as the games are now. so .... imagine if u played a game especially designed for runnign people over with hummers on a ps3 ( not that i like ps3, think its dum). then u might have some trouble
