First of all please excuse me if this is in the wrong section.

I am looking at purchasing a monitor specifically for console gaming (ps3). I play the COD games, Black Ops 2 being my usual "go-to". Anyway, I have been told by a few people that 120hz monitors are the best for gaming because of the great refresh rate. But from my understanding console games have a max fps of 60. So if this is the case, a 120hz monitor would be pointless?

So I am leaning towards the cheaper 60hz range of monitors because of 60fps cap on console games.

Can anyone confirm this for me? Or would a 120hz monitor be better even with the cap?

Any input is greatly appreciated. I am stuck between the two but leaning towards the 60hz.

Cheers guys

In my personal experience I don't believe you'll notice a difference due to the fact that the games only run at 60fps at max and most likely at 30fps. I have a 120hz monitor and while it looks better for games running above 60fps on my PC, any games running at 60fps do not seem to have any benefits and I wouldn't spend the extra money on a 120hz monitor for that reason.

Yeah if I played PC games then getting a 120hz monitor would be a no-brainer but the fact that I only play console games.. a 60hz makes sense.  Thanks for your input

You don't need a 120hz monitor for console, you won't notice any difference, because all the console games run 60fps or less.
