Xbox One gets my vote. You get dedicated servers for multiplayer gaming, better game exclusives line up, better online network, better controller that has always been rated the best amongst most since the launch of Xbox 360 and voice/gestures interaction via Kinect.

Do whatever you want to do man.

of course bill gates is gonna say that ;)

Both consoles are great/as well as each other. You just have to compare features and exclusives and decide what you want most :)

If you're just interested in the gaming, then it looks like the ps4 has more grunt. But so far, the Xbox seems to have a slightly better game selection.

Personally, if I get either it will be used for a bit more than gaming. And I like the windows 'ecosystem.' (the prospect of using smartglass etc with my surface pro has some appeal too) I feel the Xbox one will work a tad better for me personally. But they'll probably both be pretty good.

They're so close in many many (all?) respects. Don't pay too much notice to the hype/drama; its ridiculous. People love to slag Microsoft, and sometimes they even deserve it.

My main concern is freeview tuning and DVR. I'd love it if I could get a USB DVB-T tuner and plug it into an xbox one. I'd love it even more if the xbox one would record tv. But I'm not sure if the former is possible or not, and by all reports, the xbox one doesn't support DVR at all. At least not yet, anyway. Perhaps a third party application might change this but it'd be nice to have it integrated.

What's the best way to get the xbox one up and running with freeview in NZ? I don't have a tuner box (just an HTPC, which is likely to be decommissioned soon).

Don't know.

I'm not a fanatical gamer and am in no desperate hurry to buy either of these. I plan to wait until both have been out for 6 months or so before doing anything about upgrading. Then I'm likely to miss being gouged by the "early adopter" initial price, and enough reviews and comparisons will be out there for me to make an informed choice.

In the mean time, current hardware is fine.
