Hi Guys,

I'm currently having a few issues with my X Box USB digital TV tuner where it's not scanning properly.

Long story short, I had it working perfectly fine since I purchased it from Aus back in April.  But for some weird reason I had to re-tune the channels and this is where my problems began.  It will scan 3/4 of the way through and pick up around 5 channels (TV1/2, the +1, and TVNZ pop up) and then it just freezes and doesn't complete the scan.

I've tried all sorts of tricks and it's doing my head in!  I've restarted, disconnected power from the wall, unplugged the usb, changed to various regions, used different sign-ins and still always get to the same point where it freezes.  Am I missing something here?

I usually have my Xbox set to UK, with my profile set to NZ.  Haven't had any issues.

I should add that this has happened once previously before, but after doing one of the 'tricks' I mentioned above it seemed to work after a restart.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
B

I should add that I've also disconnected the aerial to the USB tuner and it scans as predicted (does a complete scan doesn't pick up any channels).

I have had software on windows freak out on one channel which has a macron in its name, and bail on the scan at that point. Perhaps the same thing is happening for you on the xbox? Its not something that would have been tested in AU since I dont think they have any non english channel names to worry about.

Yeah, so I guess I'm stuck with it?

It's a weird one.  The menu option still works, i.e. I can still go back or stop the scan when it freezes.  I'm pretty sure the other time this happened, it just magically worked itself out after a restart.

There is one thing I haven't tried, a full factory reset of the xbox, but I want to avoid that if I can.

So just a quick update, so found a work around.  I noticed that if started the scan without the aerial plugged in and reconnected the aerial past the point where it froze, the remaining channels (TV3 etc) would be picked up.  This was after many attempts at trying to pick out the point when to reconnect!

So my workaround was to crudely start the scan with the aerial plugged in, then once it picked up the first 5, disconnect until it had scanned past where it froze, and reconnected to get the rest of the channels..

My guess is something in between (not sure which frequencies sorry as it doesn't show up) is causing it to freak out..

Glad it's sorted for now tho.

Are you seeing Maori tv in the list at all? That's the one that screwed up the aver media software.

Weird. So you have all the freeview channels then? Wonder if its seeing igloo's waste of space and freaking out.

Yeah I think I've got them all. Have got the main ones I watch anyway.

From memory I think the scan used to pick up a few sky channels (discovery etc), but obviously nothing would appear when you turned to that channel.
