Hello,

Does anyone know if I can copy media files from my external harddrive to an xbox 360 (via usb port on Xbox?) and then play them directly from the xbox 360?

Thanks!

I dont believe so unless you have hacked it.  But you can play them direct from the usb drive if the codec is supported

Thanks for the reply. Does that also go for the ps3? Or does that have the same limitations?

Thanks!

I've never tried copying from external usb to PS3 (I just play it off the external USB) but I have copied from PS3 to USB, and I'm pretty sure it works the other way around too.

I dont know about the 360 sorry but i transfer files (movies and music) to and from my ps3 from usb stick/usb hdd Daily, the usb harddrive didnt work until i formatted it to FAT32 and it wont find the files unless they are setup in the correct folders ie \PS3\MUSIC\ or you press "triangle" and select "Display all"

It seems strange that you wouldnt be able to copy atleast music off a usb drive, check the formatting on your drive maybe you need to do the same as i did with my ps3...

Thanks for the replies. There seems no way to copy files to the xbox hdd, but you can attach a hdd or mp3 player and play files from there. I know enough!

Thanks,
