Just bought myself my first gaming PC in over a decade. Very good quality rig (i5, GTX 1070, 16gb ddr4 etc). What do I need to know/tips or helpful hints? Been a while since I've done this and if anyone has any great advice on settings, utilizing equipment correctly etc it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What's your monitor's native resolution? Presuming it's 1920x1080 that is going to be a great setup that can handle anything.

Get yourself a Steam account and load up on games. Couple other places I go to are Bundlestars and Green Man Gaming.

Also Origin and Uplay who both give away classic games from time to time.

Also might want to invest in some Xbox gamepads, they require a dongle to make them work but very much worth it for games that work better with a controller.

Thanks! Yeah its a native 1080, only 60hz but I can upgrade later if I feel the need. Got a steam account with a bunch of humble bundle stuff already queued, also a few blizzard games too. I know greenman, never heard of bundlestars, ill check em out.

RE the origin and uplay, once you download them are they free forever (like PS+ or Games with Gold?) or just for a limited time?

Also got a couple of dualshock 4s, so i'll probably just use those. Forgot how much work it is getting everything sorted and settled.

With Origin and Uplay the free games remain associated with your account permanently. Bit of a hassle maintaining all these services but free is free.

Origin also has an interesting subscription service (Access) which gives you some great games to play while your subscription remains active. Plus you get free upgrades on existing games (deluxe editions etc) in a similar manner.

The 1070 is good for 1440p at ultra for most things and very high at 4K ... 1080p is like *yawn for the GPU

Mind you my 1060 does 4K for last year's games at ultra
