Anyone else finding all the online functionality of the Xbox One (i.e. downloading anything from the store) to be painfully slow? As in 10 minutes to install a 100MB package on a 100Mbps fibre connection?

the PC and the PS3 are fine, just the Xbox is almost unusable.

Depends what you are downloading. New releases especially around release day take ages and often fail.

Funny you mention.... I've found browsing the store to be super slow the last couple of days.  Even just moving up and down between items in the list is so bad.  I gave up looking for something to buy yesterday and just started replaying Doom :)

Doesn't matter what it is, old (Titanfall 2 DLC) or new (Skype) both are equally awful.

And yes, just browsing the store can take a full minute for pages to load correctly. This is via a LAN connection, not wifi and other hardware on the same switch will happily download from elsewhere at >10MB/s.

Even the store via Windows 10 is hardly a speed demon.

Gigatown Fibre over WiFi .. and over the last few days I've been getting really slow speeds when updating or downloading new games.

Its never been "fast" but over the weekend it was painful.

This is what I'm dealing with. Actual download speed when something will download tends to be anywhere from 0.1Mbps to 30Mbps but anything over ~1.5Mbps tends to be very short lived.

This is on a hard-wired connection and everything else on the network will happily max out the 100Mbps link to pretty much wherever. Has Microsoft QOS'd NZ to oblivion?

ISP is Bigpipe, unsure if that'd factor in. Have tried various DNS settings for good measure. IPv6 is enabled but the XBox is (once again) the only device I have that doesn't support the implementation of it that is in use.

The Netflix app streams 4K HDR video just fine which suggests it can sustain something like 20Mbps, so it's looking like a MS specific issue rather than a general network issue.

Question - do you have external storage connected to the Xbox?  If so is it the default install location?  I've found that with a USB drive connected installing a game (even from disc) can freeze and take forever.  If I unplug the external drive it works fine.  So I have set it up so that default installs go to the internal drive, and I manually archive old games I'm not playing to the external drive.  When downloading a game this basically makes the game download about 20Mb then it just halts and comes down a few kb at a time.

I'm encountering this problem this evening. My Halo Wars 2 update is crawling (1 - 5Mb/s). Occasionally it will climb towards 30Mb/s, but then plummet quickly. This is on Vodafone VDSL (70Mb/s download - speedtest) - wired connection.

Anyone got any idea how we can get an explanation from MS?

FWIW - Downloading from the Windows store on a Win10 PC also seems to be similarly painful whereas every other service (including downloading regular Windows Updates) runs at a regular speed.

I assume it's because it's all coming from Australia rather than the usual Akamai mirrors (would mostly explain the poor ~150ms ping), but even if that's the case it's still rather dismal.

(Necro'ing this old thread.)

It would seem that Microsoft are stiffing us Xbox users bandwidth-wise. For years downloads on Xbox Live have been painfully slow. Even upgrading to fibre broadband from ADSL2+ made little difference.

Today I bought 2 games on the Xbox 360 (yeah, yeah, it's old, I know), and the downloads are still really really slow.

We pay subscriptions for Xbox Live Gold memberships, so I would expect decent download speeds. Even loading things like screenshots for games have been ridiculously slow for as long as I can remember. I imagine downloading a.Windows .iso from microsoft.com would be much faster!

Maybe this could explain why I get consistent grips (and I'm being VERY polite) from my 15yr as he is trying to download a game, or a game update on his xbox one.  The download speed can drop to kb's and really gets over 30meg.  I moved to a  1000/500 plan to see if this would help, I tired different DNS servers, different wifi/network setting, configurations and unfortunately nothing really changes.  And I won't mention the very colourful language I get when the Fortnite pings go crazy......

The last change I made (I have a Edgerouter x) was to force a block on port 3074 to another port. Not sure this fixed anything, but the noise has died down lately, so thats a win....

if you want to do likewise on your Edgerouter, do this

configure

set system offload ipv4 forwarding disable

set service upnp2 listen-on switch0 set service upnp2 wan eth0

set service upnp2 acl rule 10 action deny

set service upnp2 acl rule 10 description "Deny default Xbox port 3074"

set service upnp2 acl rule 10 external-port 3074

set service upnp2 acl rule 10 local-port 0-65535

set service upnp2 acl rule 10 subnet 192.168.X.X/24 (where X is your IP address range)

commit save exit

Thank you for that. I'm currently just forwarding the standard XBL ports to my Xbox, using a static IP and Ethernet connection rather than WiFi. Blocking 3074 would seem counter-intuitive since that's the main port used for XBL.

The thread I got this from was also talking about an issue where you have multiple xbox's and the NAT won't say at open as the Edgerouter mucks up which connection was to which xbox, blocking 3074 and then porting this to another random port, addresses that issue, but this same fix seems to have stabilised my sons connections.

What xbl ports did you have forwarded?

I only have one console, so I have forwarded the following to it:
TCP: 80
UDP: 88, 500, 3544, 4500
TCP/UDP: 3074, 53, 55000

No NAT problems when I do the network diagnostic test. I think 55000 is not needed, but won't be harming anything.
