Some games don't really scare me at all, but some that are standout in the genre are the 2002 remake of Resident Evil, The Evil Within, Silent Hill 2, Clock Tower and Alone in the Dark. Other mentions should go out to Dino Crisis, Obscure, Siren and Nocturne.

I think RE went rather BS after they made them into shooters, with optional co-op. Uh!

RE2 is supposed to be getting remade. I recently played the DLC for RE7 and they've really altered Chris' looks; I don't think it looks anything like he was in 5, 6 and Revelations, but we can just move on from that, as they changed Jill too. The DLC called 'End of Zoe' is too funny. A guy punching black monsters with just his hands?! LMAO...

I think RE is trying to mix horror and action, with the emphasis being on action only when you're playing an action type character. RE7 was a strange mix of action, horror and mystery.

One game I really enjoyed playing this year, is the remastered version of The Last of Us. It's not a total horror game because you also have to fight other survivors that try to kill you, but it is very well made. The graphics are the best the PS4 can have. There's some zombie like creatures called Clickers.

I bought Doom recently, Might give it a go when back in NZ as Aussie internet takes about 3 days to download it. Not really horror but would be enough to give me the jump at times. Bit of gore as well so sorta fits the bill.
I have Amnesia and that scared the living everything out of me. Played it for all of ten minutes.

Bioshock I couldn't handle. Something about a dude in a diving bell suit playing with a little girl and a massive drill on one arm just doesnt work.

I will buy Remothered: Tormented Fathers next year. It's a horror game where you hide, rather than confront enemies...

I like the bits where he has to drink the coffee to heal his health. Takes the edge right off...

With that said, The Evil Within is a huge copy of Silent Hill. That isn't a bad thing, considering we'll likely never get a new Silent Hill game with their focus on promoting their slot machines nowadays. I'm really angry at Konami for letting the series die. This all started over 2 years ago when Silent Hills on the PS4 was axed, when Kojima left the company. This game was hotly anticipated. It was going to star Norman Reedus as the main character. The P.T. thing got everybody really excited. Although I don't like first person horror as much as third person or fixed camera angles, I was very keen to give it a chance.

I thought Silent Hill however, actually went bogus after 4: The Room. Homecoming and Downpour have better graphics than those on the PS2, sure, but the controls, the combat and stuff made them almost unplayable for me. I did finish Homecoming, but I had to obtain a game save to get a special ray gun. Otherwise, I was stuck using a steel pipe and I was so fed up by the time I got out of that horrible apartment section. You do find guns, but you don't get much bullets, so wasting ammo on regular enemies rather than for boss fights, is not wise. But I don't know. Unlike RE, the Silent Hill games haven't been very good in years. I can always play 1-3 and never get bored.

Updated for minor typos.
