I have a Windows 10 machine, a quick google says xbox one controllers should work via USB.

Is this correct, before I go buy something like this;

I just want to be sure it'll work.

Yes, it'll work. I often use my wireless controller (plugged in via USB) with my PC. When streaming games on PC from Xbox you actually need to plug your controller into the PC to play the game.

Edit: Spelling

Yup, just plug it in and it will work with games that are happy to use a controller.
