So... thanks to handy dandy Geekzone and their adverts I just realised that DSE are doing midnight launches of heaps of games on the 13th http://www.dse.co.nz/dse.shop/en/catalog/PRS0002624?id=gaming

Who else will be down there? I know I want my Wotlk game asap... even though I'm gonna be working the friday and saturday :(

Also noticed the mirrors edge game, anyone heard anything good/bad/at all about that?

Mirrors Edge - the verdict from Ars Technica...

The good
  • Beautiful graphics, strong art style
  • The sense of speed and momentum is breath-taking
  • Complex, interesting characters
  • It feels like something new
The bad
  • It's over way too quickly
  • The running is merely a repetition of the same few concepts and moves
  • Graphics quickly begin to look the same
  • Loading times kill your sense of momentum
  • The elevators are intrusive and go against the entire feel of the game
  • Story needed to go deeper into the world
  • Some scenes seemed to force gun play on you
The Ugly
  • Turn off the dot in the middle of the screen under options. This is what you focus on, and it helps to keep you from getting motion-sick. Without it I was green and spinny in about thirty seconds
Verdict: Rent

Thanks xpd! that was exactly the kind of info I was after. So anything in the midnight launch you're excited about?

Do DSE still "price match"? I wouldn't mind getting Guitar Hero: World Tour at a midnight launch, but its $40 cheaper at The Warehouse! And to a student, $40 is quite a bit!!

I was thinking of purchasing Mirrors Edge also, but from the reviews, I dont want to spend $100 on a game for a 6 hour single player story!!

Hey,

I have just been onto DSE website and they have beaten The Warehouse's prices!:

PS2 - $325
PS3 - $345
Xbox - $345
Wii - $345

I have had prices matched every time I take another retailers Catalogue or a web quote for gaming into a DSE store.

Cheers

Yes they're really good with pricematching. I know if you mention Wotlk is $72 at gamesman they'll bet it by a dollar :P
