I'm trying to encode a 4gb HD movie with the mkv container to play on my Xbox360.

I used Windows Media Encoder to convert some short mkv files to wmv and they worked beautifully. However, when I try to load up the 4gb file in WME each screen of the wizard takes 10 minutes to load and I've not been able to complete it. (It's like the computer thinks real hard, but then forgets what it was doing.)

I've tried XBox360 Converter, but whenever I start it up I get a message that it needs to close.

I've tried WinAVI, but the output files don't play.

I've tried OGM to AVI, and even though it says the conversion is complete, the file doesn't appear anywhere.

I've tried Total Video Converter, but I get a message on the XBox that the codec (h264) isn't supported, which is weird because I'm certain it plays other h264-encoded vids.

I'm at my wit's end.

Any advice? Many, many thanks in advance.

How about jsut converting to divx? and download the media updaet thingee on the 360 - my divx playback is somewhat hit and miss but around 90% of my dvix files play on my 360
