I have two C64s still lurking in the cupboard with disks, spare disk drives etc. But they disks are slowly dying and it may be time to move them on.

Has anyone had any experience tracking down a simple non-analogue direction joystick for use with old game emulators? It would greatly simplify things for me.

The main caveat is I'd be using a Mac Mini (G4) as the emulation box so the only input is USB.

I had an old MS sidewinder gamepad that I used to use, but it sounds like you're after an actual stick controller. One possibility (albeit probably not a cheap one) is to look for arcade controllers - console specific ones would need a usb adapter (and possibly drivers - I've no Mac experience, so not sure on that bit). Do a search for "arcade stick" on trademe.

Of course, if you want something a bit more true to the C64 experience, you could try something like this:

keyboard hack to a 9 pin socket and then the actual C64 stick will be most authentic

ask on www.arcadecontrols.com in the forum or look at the info. Actually search first since they get pretty annoyed at newbies asking faq's
