Well sony have finally come clean and its not pretty! All user information has been stolen by the hackers :(. They arn't sure about credit card information yet. Biggest fail of the year? i think so!

Another issue was piracy. There is a recent custom PS3 firmware named 'rebug'. 'Rebug' allowed people to play PS3 online games without being banned.

A 'side effect' was that the 'rebug' firmware gave users unauthorised access to the private PS3 developer network.

It is possible to purchase software via the private ps3 network - but, the killer is that because sony assumes only trusted users are on the network they were not validating credit cards so you could enter any CC number and download free software.

And, one more thing, until Sony puts Linux back onto the ps3 they will be constantly targeted by the hackers. It is not going to be pretty times for sonys online services.

I have a PSN account but with no CC attached to it. Going to change my security questions and answers as soon as the network comes back online.

Signed up with the service on the 18/4 so data may or may not have been taken (intrusion occured sometime between 17/4-19/4).

Glad I used a fake DOB

, as I saw no need to give them that. They do have my CC details though

Going by the media and what 'anonymous' motives are, I don't think my credit card details could be at jeopardy considering the're more focused on anti-government/anti-authority from big organizations like Sony etc but the possibility of them (anonymous) being hacked or passing that information on could be imminent so I strongly suggest changing your credit card details if you haven't already.

I definitely will be changing mine now that all our information has been obtained...

Another day, another password change for me.. But that teaches Sony right for stopping support for "Other OS" - If they left that there so the government can haz more supercomputer power, none of this would have happened.

While Sony could have released information more quickly, I don't necessarily see this as being just Sony's fault. How many companies have been victim to hackers? Government agencies? Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't the only 100% secure network one that isn't plugged in?

My full annoyance is at the **** heads who have done this. Whether it is Anonymous or another group or just some sad individual, I don't care.

And unlike other posts I have seen elsewhere on the net, I have no intention of selling my ps3, buying an xbox 360 or suing Sony.

Well that explains why ASB/Visa detected someone in Italy trying to withdraw $800 from my credit card last week.

I was wondering which site/service was compromised.

Doesn't matter how securely it's stored, it has to be unencrypted to be used and it sounds like the bad guys got access to user data post unencryption.
