It seems TelstraClear might be considering free data traffic towards Steam Gamers..... FINALLY an ISP that listens.

I cannot confirm if it is true, however I do have this.

All I can say is that, if TelstraClear get free data traffic towards Steam I will be signing up to them without hesitation.

Edit: I realize now this has no proof of Steam on the pic, but I wrote up that blog post about Free Data Traffic towards Steam and directed that subject towards TelstraClear.

My apologies, I should have been more clear.

It is directed towards steam as I spoke about Free traffic to Steam on my blog and directed the post towards TelstraClear.

I'm not sure what the big deal is, it's not hard to get a steam content server, Box with 16gb ram and 2tb hdd min.

We have two in NZ already albeit filtered

The big deal is they're my ISP! Decent speed with my cable will be a dream come true! And the word FREE!
I bought 2 games a couple of weeks ago and by the time I'd got the d/l'd and updated, there was half my cap!
And the speed was <200k so I wasn't impressed

Oh the free thing,

To be frank with the number of ISP's zero-rating traffic it's not surprising Telstra is jumping on the bandwagon

I thought Steam sent you to random servers, not necessarily your closest one :-/

You can choose the closest steam server, but if that content is not on the closest server then it would redirect you to the closest that has it.

And all the ones I tried sucked. I ended up getting the best speed from the US

Grumble. Here I am thinking maybe it's time for a new broadband-TV-phone-mobile all-in-one provider and now TC _might_ be pulling this one out of the bag.

Don't you just hate competition...

Hopefully they do it, it will likely save them a fair amount international bandwidth usage in the long run due to Steam's popularity now, it's win/win.

I've tried suggesting hosting a Steam content mirror to many ISP reps here and on GPforums but this is the first time it appears to actually have worked as intended.

If it goes ahead I'll be seriously considering switching back to Telstraclear ASDL as I have 90 games in Steam these days, I tend to pick up a new game in specials every other month.

Also hopefully other ISP's will be prompted into action by a move like this.

I'd be over the moon if this turned out to be true. I've been happy with TCL performance but have to admit I've been tempted to switch from time to time (ADSL plans seem a little bit stagnant, but I ultimately decided that the overall performance had been very good, so why mess with it?).

I'll certainly be locked in as a customer if they start moving in this direction :)

It would awsome if true. Telstra's already doubled my data cap, free steam usage would just be amazing :)
