Hi,

I've recently graduated from 4G to kinda fibre (we moved into an apartment and got connected freedom which is fibre into the building and Ethernet throughout the building) and the router that came with and is locked down by the ISP isn't great.

I have a Smart Modem 2 from skinny that is a better router if I knew how to unlock/configure not to connect to 4g and configure to repeat the wifi signal.

The apartment is over two levels and the smart modem has a much better wifi radio which is just as strong upstairs as down.

I've just now done it, thanks.  I had to change a few settings on the WAN (of as they call it WLAN) page.

For anyone else doing it:

  • Pull out the SIM from the SM2
  • Plug an Ethernet cable into the port labelled Fibre on the SM2 and run it to the new ISPs router

On the SM2

  • Go to Network > WAN
  • Change WAN mode to Ethernet
  • Save settings

    • Under LAN make sure the address of the SM2 is not going to conflict with the new router
  • Reboot the SM2
  • Go back to Network and click routing and you should see the IP of your new ISPs router is your new gateway address

Now you have a stronger WiFi signal and your phone battery will last longer.
