Hi. I have been running a pfSense setup for some time now and used the VLAN 10 setup for WAN as suggested by my (3 over the years) ISPs. But why? Can I set up my WAN without VLAN 10. Admittedly, I have not tried to change the settings in my router as I don't want to battle with downtime and don't have the time right now to sus it out. My connection currently is ONT -> pfSense -> Wifi APs

I am the reason idiot's guides exist

If your ISP has selected a tagged service, you have to use VLAN 10. It won't work without it. ISPs can pick.

The reason for the VLAN tagging is so that Class of Service can be applied to access the high class traffic that most UFB services have available, for things like VoIP. They are part of the VLAN header, so it doesn't work without a VLAN
