Got upgraded from Lightspeed 100g to Warpspeed 100g today and got a new Cisco DocSis 3.0 modem put in, the techie said The "link" light on the modem panel, should be green, its yellow flashing, the other 4 lights are green then said something about I might not have a 1gb eternet port on my laptop, then did a speed test and looked fine speedwise, how do I know if i have this 1gb eternet port on my laptop? it's a toshiba satellite L640 laptop, does anyone else have a yellow flashing "link" light or is yours green?.. thanks =)

This laptop has a 100 Mbps ethernet port, so the modem will show yellow. If it was a gigabit port then it would show green.

While recommended, the lack of a gigabit won't impact on your 100 Mbps service because your laptop currently matches the max speed of the service anyway - and you won't be using the full speed much in most of the time...

You won't get much over 90mbit in a layer 3 speed test as your computer is limited to 100mbit at layer 2.

All this speed stuff is really interesting. There's been lots of talk in .au about the NBN speeds because Telstra are delivering just over 100mbit on fibre at layer 3 on their network, while 100mbit on the NBN is only the AVC speed at layer 2 and once you add layer 3 and ppp over heads to it the speeds are going to be much less.

One NBNCo document even talks about 79mbit's on a 100mbit tail.

Wonder what UFB is going to be like?
