I had a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router 2.4GHz with 4 port switch model WRT54G but it had had a hard life and the connections were poor, so I replaced it. My replacement is a Linksys Cisco Wireless -G Broadband Router Model WRT54G2 V1. I am on Telstra Clear Broadband.
We use laptops over wireless. These used to load pages fairly fast and we could watch (eg) TV3 On Demand. However, now you get a short bit of video and then it goes into thinking mode as it loads the next short bit etc. The same happens with youtube etc. ie much slower than it used to be.
The positioning of the router and the laptops has not changed. This has been going on for a couple of months.
Have I accidentally downgraded my router?! Or have I set up something incorrectly in the configuration? Or....?

I would test via network cable to see if you get the same problem which would indicate whether it's a wireless problem or a problem with the router itself.

Maybe you could tell us the line stats, its possible the line is not good, and changing modems simply made that more obvious, ie this newer modem is struggling with a poor line.

I have tried using a cable and the speed seems good - I watched a bit of TV3 on demand with no problem. So I guess that means the problem is to do with the wireless. Any suggestions how to proceed further?

Sorry, I do not know how to get 'line stats'. Is it something you could explain to me?
I have checked with TelstraClear and they said that everything looked fine.

I'm not a tech person, so my best answers are... I'm with TelstraClear so that is broadband via Telstra cable to the cable modem. Then via Cat 5 cable to my Linksys router. Then usually via wireless. Although I did try a length of Cat 5 cable to my laptop as suggested to check the speed - it was better.
