I note that a review of this device said that disabling channel bonding results in better performance

We live in a small home with 3 laptops, 2 wifi music devices, tablet and smart phones and a wifi TV unit.

Should I disable channel bonding?

There isn't really a simple answer to this.

Channel bonding gives you 40MHz WiFi channels which (theoretically) doubles performance. In a crowded environment this can make performance better. It can also make things better. There are many devices that also won't work witn an AP with channel bonding enabled.

The best solution is to do some testing and decide what works best for you.
