Hi,
My DSL-G604T modem router played up for ages (dropping connections etc) so i changed the firmware to the Router Tech custom firmware which i have happily used for some time now.

Yesterday my wireless stopped working. I can plug in via ethernet and surf good as gold but the moment i unplug the wireless does not pickup. I know its not my laptop because the whole family cannot connect on their devices either.

I have checked the settings and they look fine. Time for a new modem router? Any help/advice much appreciated.

P/s.............. the topic heading states part 2 because there is already a topic with the same heading but nothing there to help.

Other people may have better suggestions, but that model got discontinued 2+ years ago, and may be well over 8+ years old (from memory, even I had one).  I'd put it in the "it's had a good extended life, lets spring $50-$100 for a new one with 'n' wireless" bucket.

Or you could ask your ISP for a new one in exchange for re-signing on for the period of time they ask for (Telecom is normally 12 months).

Edit:  If you insist on trying to fix it before consigning it to the trash (or more appropriately, e-Waste), maybe take a peak at the PCB and look for damaged capacitors, I resurrected a Netgear that died before it's time that I couldn't be bothered getting done under warranty, 2 replacement caps, good as new (in this case it was the switch ports that were dead).

This is the likely issue, once you have ruled out firmware. These devices used an AC plugpack transformer, with all the power supply regulation etc on the main board. There are several electrolytic caps which are probably just about dead.

After reading the above i thought it was a good excuse to buy a new one.
Just got back from Dick Smith, i bought a NetGear N300 Modem Router for $149 (normally $189). All setup, myself and family are using it now.

Thank you for your help/advice, much appreciated.
