Hi

I'd like to move my computer into the living room for the winter and tried the TP Link wireless modem router on the jack points in the living area but it doesn't connect.  I used the same splitter that I use here, so would be grateful for any help.

Many thanks

Do you have a master filter with a dedicated ADSL jack?

One would presume that you have a master filter installed and that there is only a single jack point in your house that your modem can be plugged into. This is the recommended setup for xDSL.

That sounds as though it is correct, as I had a trade person come and install the jack when I moved here 7 years ago.  Does this mean I need to get him back to change it?

Yep, if you want to move the modem.

What about leaving the modem where it is and using WiFi?

Yes I thought of leaving modem as is, but new desk top doesn't seem to have wifi, but I suppose I could put a card in, or get a dongle.

Okay - that's easy :-)

Any particular brand recommended?

Many thanks

Or flick me an email / PM if you are Auckland - Waikato area. I can move it and check your wiring and make sure you have the latest VDSL compatible filter in place.

I think I'll just buy a USB dongle, but thanks for the thought.

TP-Link TL-WN822N - I bought one of these recently and it's been working pretty well on one of the desktops in my house.
