Consider the scenario:

(1)= =(2)+(3)

(1), (2) and (3) are different PCs, = are bluetooth devices and + refers to an Ethernet connection.

We setup the LAN but we faced the following problem: we can ping (3) from (1) but we cannot ping (1) from (3). (2) can ping the others.

The environment was set under Windows 2000. The bluetooth device is D-Link DBT-120.

What should we do so that (3) can see (1)?

Additionally, we have some problems with the IP addresses setup. We could not configure the blueetooth devices in the same subnetwork as the ethernet devices. Has it a solution, i.e., can i put all communication devices in the same subnetwork?

Thanx,
Jefferson.

Hi, jpeleqri.

Do you use network bridge for the (2) pc?

Also you need to show all PC's IP setting otherwise it is difficult to judge.

Best Regards.
Kenchi

Kenichi is right... Give us the IPs and let us know if you're using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) or Bridge.

Hi.

I am a newbie in this topic and i do not know how to configure a brigde in pc (2). I definied the ip addresses and setup some gateway values.

Here is the list of values i used:

(1)=
IP 10.0.0.1
MASK 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY -

=(2)
IP 10.0.0.2
MASK 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY 10.0.0.3

(2)+
IP 10.0.0.3
MASK 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY 10.0.0.2

+(3)
IP 10.0.0.4
MASK 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY -

I tried to define ip addresses in the same subnetwork. But, in this case, (1) cannot see (3) and vice-versa.

Thank you for your consideration.

[]'s,
Jefferson.

Do you need these machines to be in the 10.0.0.x space?

What version of Bluetooth software do you have installed on these machines? To find out right-click the Bluetooth icon in the System Tray and select Advanced Configuration.

Hi there!

I made new tests.

First of all, the IPs do not need to be in the same subnetwork.

I found out that the "Bridge Connection" is a functionality of Windows XP. Since I am using Windows 2000, i need to configure it as a router and, in this way, the bluetooth part and the Ethernet part must be in a different subnetworks.

I made the following setup: (= bluetooth; + Ethernet)

(1)= =(2)+(3)

(1)=
IP 10.0.1.1
MASK 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY 10.0.1.2

=(2)
IP 10.0.1.2
MASK 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY -

(2)+
IP 10.0.0.1
MASK 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY -

+(3)
IP 10.0.0.2
MASK 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY 10.0.0.1

In this scenario, (1) and (2) can ping all machines. But (3) can only ping +(3) and (2)+, i.e., it cannot "see" the bluetooth devices.

I found an article that said to enable the ip routing in (2) changing the registry key "\LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Parameters\IPEnableRouter". But it did not work.

Again, thank you for helping me.
Jefferson.
