well i am wanting to get earthlinks dsl and i have the new hp slim line from walmart and other locations it is only 4.2 inches wide do i need a special modem? or can i get a regular sized modem and make it work on my computer??????

if you have a standard PCI slot (your manuals/sales lit will tell you), then you can put a DSL PCI modem.

I would really recommend an external ethernet based ADSL modem.

Either way, your modem needs to support ADSL not 56k
