I have a billinton usb dongle bluetooth device. I have loaded the most recent drivers and set the ipaq up as per the instructions. I have also set the com port on the PC activesync to com 5. When using the blue tooth manager the two devices seem to try to connect ie the icon on the pc goes green also on checking "my bluetooth places" The ipaq is there. I am using XP and version 3.6 of active sync. I have version 1.3.2.7 driver

With the 1.3.2.7 Software, you will get prompted twice for a connection, once down by the tray, and once in the middle of the screen. If you do not answer these prompts fast enough, the connection will be broken. It is best to check always allow this connection.

Ok, then have you modify the settings? Or does this just not happen, and never has. If this is the case, you may want to think about reinstalling the software. Right click on the icon in the tray, then Advanced Configuration. Click the Local Services tab, then go to Bluetooth Serial port, highlight it and click properties. On the new window click on Notifications. Is Audio and visual checked?

Ok

So I removed the bluetooth software user the add or remove function and restalled. I have not changed any of the settings since the reinstallation. I was ask to provide passwords for both the laptop and the ipaq during the reinstallation process. I also soft reset the ipaq and re setup the active sync using BT manager on the ipaq. I have also checked that the port under connection setting in active sync on the pc is serial port 5 . I have aslo checked the audio and visual boxes are ticked as you suggested

After all this I still have the same problem

I don't know if this would apply to you or not. But I have noticed that if there are three or more Bluetooth devices in the same room, it can take a while for them to connect. Much longer than I would think.

From rereading your post it is not clear to me if the Computer you are syncing to is the same one you are conecting to for the Bluetooth connection.

You said you setup the Activesync port to COM5... Is this the same COM you have in the Services part of your Bluetooth configuration? Are you sure you don't have other devices using the same port (a modem?)

Yes you might want to recheck that COM port, #5 is normally the one listed for Client Applications, and not the one listed for Local Services, which is 6. You need to set ActiveSync to the COM port listed on the bottom of Local Services.
