I have been trying for 2 weeks to get an internet connection with an ipaq 5450 and a Belkin bluetooth adapter (F8T001) with no success. I have spent several hours on the phone with HP but they do not know the answer. Seems they are learning they go. I have been able to get ActiveSync to work and there is no problem with bluetooth connections between the ipaq and the PC (Windows 2000). I have read though the postings and guides on this site and but nothing so far has resolved the problem. From the manual, the Belkin adapter is able to use all the services necessary to get internet access. The PC is connected to the internet through the company LAN. Therefore, I can not enable ICS and still connect to the Internet -- different subnet from the default in ICS. HP claims that this should not matter – it should just pass through. Also, do get the null modem error.

Please help!

If you want to use the LAN access profile you have to use ICS.

The LAN NIC (A) can have any IP (static or dynamic) in any subnet. It can be something like 192.168.2.134 for instance.

When using ICS the BT NIC (virtual) will be assigned an address 192.168.1.0. This is a requirement. The Pocket PC will be assigned a dynamic IP, handed from ICS. This mini DHCP server will only work in your machine and will not be visible from the LAN NIC (A), therefore will not affect your LAN environment.

Make sure to configure the BT NIC to have proper DNS IP addresses, since they'll not be automatic. But do not change the IP address from 192.168.1.0 on this NIC.

Hope this helps!

Mauricio Freitas there is a typo in your post. ICS will set the BT NIC (virtual) to 192.168.0.1 if I'm not mistaken, not 192.168.1.0. So you office LAN can use any address but the 192.168.0.xxx range. You want to enable ICS on the Company LAN (nic) by the way. This means it will NOT be touch, just the BT virtual nic will then be change.

Thanks, David. Your comment is correct... It's just because I was typing my addresses and at home I have two LAN ranges : the router connected to the cable modem and the Bluetooth one.

So, to make it clear: the BT NIC will be on the 192.168.0.xxx range!

David is also right about the LAN NIC: just enable ICS but don't touch anything else there!

I have had the same problem as waldoss (iPaq 5455 with Belkin Bluetooth F8T001). The activesync connection via Bluetooth works just fine. Feeling confident, I tried to initiate an Internet connection. I have XP Pro, on a corporate LAN; I successfully shared my Internet connection via ICS. On the PC, the Bluetooth LAN Adapter says it has the proper address (192.168.0.1), but I go to initiate the connection on the iPaq, and I get a LOGIN prompt to Network Resources, followed by a connection window that is using the Bluetooth Null Modem as a connection. I never see anything about the Bluetooth PAN adapter. I know the PAN exists, because I have seen it under "Settings - Connections".

Don't know what I'm doing wrong...but I can't get it to connect via Bluetooth. WLAN works flawlessly (before and after the WLAN update) so I might invest the extra $20 into a Wireless Access Point for home.

Thanks for the reponses. I have tried ICS but it always changes the IP address of the internal nic (the one that connects to the the company wired LAN) to 192.168.0.1, and I no longer have access to the LAN or the Internet. If I could keep the internal IP address and let ICS change the address of the BT adapter, I think it might work. If there is a way to do this, please let me know! I can't seem to find an option to do this.

Thanks again

This is a bug in Windows 2000 ICS. Enable ICS, and manually change the LAN NIC to the correct address (or DHCP) and manually change the BT NIC to 192.168.0.1.

Make sure the addresses are correct, and restart your computer.

Thanks Freitasm for the suggestion. I am still working on the bluetooth problem but your suggestion did work for getting internet access using wireless with the same configuration.
