Can anyone recommend a modem/router combo (up to $1500) that supports Nat Loopback.  Friend needs one so they can share their IP with client, and then use the same external IP on an internal computer without being redirected back to the router login.

They purchased a TP-link TD-W8968 V3 but I have found only the V1 has had the updated firmware opening NAT.  Just for clarity the port fowarding is working correctly from an external network, just not from an internal IP.

Any suggestions would be welcome

By Nat loop back do you mean hairpin Nat? If so the Ubiquity Edge router lite supports that. And pretty sure that Mikrotik routers do as well. Neither are ADSL routers but use with a draytek DV 120 or 130 in bridge mode for the ADSL.

This is assuming the use case is a server behind a Nat router. But trying to access the server via its domain name doesn't work from behind the same router. Is this right or is your situation completely different?

The feature you want is called "hairpin NAT". I can't help with specific devices, but as mentioned above every Mikrotik router out there can do it with a simple firewall rule.

I can't confirm this with out checking, but I think this works on some Draytek routers.

here's a list or routers that support hairpinning

http://opensimulator.org/wiki/NAT_Loopback_Routers

i also looked up a current telecom vdsl/adsl router and while it didnt support it by default could be enabled via the CLI.

Thanks guys I will have a look at some of the options.  I had not even heard of it prior to their issue.  Thats the third name I have heard for it along with NAT Loopback and NAT reflection.  Its not something commonly mentioned in the specifications of a router, which makes it difficult to assertain what router does it and what doesnt.  My own (router only) TP-link TL-WR1043ND does it straight out of the box.

Which modem/router is this?  They do have their original Telecom one.  Will follow up on the type

Hey all, quick update - I have just changed the hosts file to take care of directing the local computer to the correct location (internal IP).  Had previously changed it, but found a topic on here about the need to flush the dns cache, sure enough it works :D thanks people.
