I thought this was sorted, but it keeps happening. Any ideas? Same process gets it going again instantly. To save opening the last thread:

Laptop was successfully updated to Windows 10 a couple of weeks ago. Around the same time got UFB up and running. Everything has been going swimmingly, but suddenly on startup tonight I get the dreaded yellow triangle in the network icon in the toolbar. Internet connection is 'limited'.

Going through the standard windows trouble shooter says that "[connection name] doesn't have a valid IP configuration".

Exactly the same fault on Ethernet and WiFi. Only effecting one computer (Mine!!!)

All other devices are working as normal. Some on cable and some on WiFi, no issues whatsoever. Dr Google has very little on this for Win10.

Computer, modem and network adapter have been restarted multiple times. No apparent updates installed lately (and as it only effects one computer?)

Solution seems to be as below, but it doesn't last.

I have not idea what I just did but the following from the above page fixed it immediately:

1. On the opened Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the IPCONFIG /RELEASE command and press Enter.
2. Once the command is executed successfully, and the cursor starts blinking, type the IPCONFIG /RENEW command and hit Enter.

Scanned and all clear. This is soooooooo far above my head I have no idea where to even begin!

Sorry, i cant help with why it is happening again. But I dont think it is a windows 10 issue per-se.

Run those commands which fixed it last time. Do you have a laptop or a desktop? is it happening after the machine wakes up? can you replicate the problem? That might help find out why its occuring.

But from my experience windows 10 has been quite a lot of mucking around. My virtualbox is completely miffed and I cant use Vagrant without a load of horrible hacks. Everything worked fine on windows 7/8.1. Once i upgraded to windows 10 have had a lot of problems and have had to keep downloading patches and waiting for new versions of software to come out to work with win 10.

Haha im using my work mac at the moment.

Have you tried uninstalling the network card in Device Manager and then re-installing it? Also, have you searched for updated drivers for the NIC?

Don't know if this will help,

I updated to Win 10 a while ago on my primary laptop, had the little yellow triangle, no ethernet, wifi, hot spot from phone, spent half a day wasting my time trying to get internet access, disabled fire wall, security suite, some other stuff from google all in vain.

Tried again about a week ago, on boot in to windows the little yellow triangle was back, I was not happy......., but then Comodo Internet Security Suite had a popup that said it needed to update or fix something and yey, internet access is all ok now.

I have to say Win 10 is ok, but I'm not to impressed with it, seems to lag a bit now and then and I don't see any advantage over Win 7, I do miss the aero theme and gadgets, but I got it for free.

My first impression was it was either on wake-up or re-start, but yesterday it just started while I was just generally surfing. I apparently have the latest drivers but will uninstall and try again. I hoped that 'fix' may have alerted to the core issue, but I guess not.

Issue is only on a fairly basic i3 laptop, all standard.

The other thing you could do is not use DHCP. Assign the computer a static IP address, etc., and see if the problem comes back.

What have you got on your network? In the way of routers etc that could potentially act as a dhcp server? It almost seems like you are connecting your computer to the network it's running a broadcast and something is seeing that particular MAC address and issuing it with something wrong.

I mean why would a ipconfig /renew fix it? It must be getting a bogus network setting from the dhcp device. Yeh alternatively if you have a static range you can assign one for that laptop and see how it goes for a couple weeks.

Go into your network card's drivers settings.
Untick "Allow Windows to turn this device off to save power" or whatever that stupid option is.
Reboot.

Be happy.

A neighbour had me around for similar recently.

It would refuse to receive DHCP replies and therefore no valid IP assigned. If you statically set an IP, it would go fine. Bit of googling found a few with a similar issue, and theirs appeared after one of the W10 updates was sitting pending installation completion.

IPV6 disable, you name it I was about to give in.

However I'm not sure if it was the 'updates are ready to install' reboot that fixed theirs. Or my last ditch effort that I had just performed which was an admin CMD prompt and the old netsh int ip reset

Multiple restarts and sleep etc later and so far *touch wood* it has not returned.

Wasn't aware of that one. Will give it a try

Set up is standard fibre to ONT to VF supplied Huawei modem which is bog standard with default settings. 10 other devices in the house work without any issues on WiFi and cable connections, Hence my conclusion that it is specific to this laptop.

Have also done a reinstall on the hardware and drivers. Touch wood something here has worked. At least it's an easy fix when it happens.

have seen issue before with the magic 10 mac address - the switch could not handle 11 mac address, so the 11 thing on the network that needed an ip address would not get one and not work. turn off another one that is working and then try your pc and see if it works (may need to wait a little for it to drop off the network)
