Hi there

I was wondering how everyone was finding the long term reliability of the consumer EOP/powerline pairs ?
Ive installed a few, Netcomm/TP Link , and have had some issues with devices resetting/losing pairing etc .

Also, how about reliability of the actual signal/connection through the mains. Had any issues with that dropping off ?

I know these devices are consumer level, best effort, last resort option, but many homes just dont have the option to run new network cabling through
the walls & floors .
Home users expect wifi to just work, perfectly, allways frown

Back when they first came on the scene we had no end of problems, and the devices would just die after a couple of years.

The supplier blamed it on bad power in Northland.

We gave up on them for a few years.

Lately though we haven't had any issues with Netcomm or TP-Link, however we've only been using them for about the last 12 months so it may be too soon to tell.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

I use these to link the house broadband to our garage where my NAS (with backups) is located.  If the house goes up in flames I'm confident the garage will be OK and vice versa.

My first DLink pair died after 18 months (well one of them did).  Replaced with a TPLink pair with AC pass-through that have been going about 2 years now.  Non-wireless in both cases.

I find every 2-3 months they lose sync and need to be powered off for a couple of seconds.  Annoying but it is a pretty much a last-report solution (IMHO).  My home broadband routers consistently seem to have have wireless issues and need power cycling (at least monthly) more often than these devices.

I replaced an extremely old set (as in one of the original ones to come out), cant think of the brand though.  They worked flawlessly for the best part 7 years.  New ones (TP-Link AV500's, 4 of them) have been running perfect since the install.  Never have to reboot any of them.  I did have a set of tenda ones I used for testing and they caused nothing but trouble..

Hi

I have used a pair of    EDIMAX HP-5102, AV 500, for nearly 2-3 years until one of them died recently.

They were easy to pair, and served my purpose.  ie: to connect Internet to my home theatre receiver to listen Internet Radio.

No problems and using wiring in an older house.  No speedtests were done, so cant provide any feedback on this.

I recently saw some cheap ones from PB tech for $20 a piece,   brand is Tenda but is the AV200 standard.

But seeing feedback above from askelon, maybe you need to stay away from el-cheapos.
