Hi All

I still own one  Squeezebox player, great player though just died after many years of service. Has anyone of you suggestions for a streamer. Radio and network storage player and if possible also spotify.

It would be good if multiple speakers could be attached to extend out to the veranda.

I would appreciate very much to see some suggestions :-)  Thanks

Got an old amp? You could use a raspberry Pi with volumio.org. Has music file playback, Internet streaming and Spotify. I have one hooked to an old 5.1 amp running 3 sets of speakers.....and a 4th off line out to a t class amp for outdoor speakers.

I got a few of the Panasonic Allshare units (SH-ALL1C from memory) and connected them to existing sound systems in the bedroom, study and living room.

Really happy with the quality of the units. Good quality DACs, and so far they have worked well.

The Panasonic android app (and presumably the iOS one as well?) is a bit ho hum. It works, but it's not great. However, any app designed for the Qualcomm Allshare ecosystem should work with the Panny units. I have tried Allplay Radio (which seems to use the Tunein Radio engine), and it works fine.

Edit: Typing.

@davidcole, yes we have an old amp. Just the internet radio unit is dead. I am not so keen on Spotify or Pandora e.g. I just want to load my radio stations and possibly playing saved music from a network drive.

@JimmyH, see above

So volumio pulls from a NAS (or any shared drive) to play music.  And you can load  streaming radio, ie the iheart stations (you can find the stream), all of the shoutcast stations - anything with an m3u8 playlist.

Also you said:

Which is why I mentioned spotify....with is another service on there.

Volumio is free, especially if you have a spare raspberry pi and amp sitting around.  But if you wanted to take it further  you could go raspbery pi + hiberry DAC + unpowered speakers and make yourself your own wireless speaker.

Failing that you'll be up for a wifi connected speaker (ie sonos, yamaha music cast, LG Flow or pioneer) or go the bluetooth route and use your phone to push to a speaker

davidcole,

Yes, you are right re the spotify! My apology for this. There you see the conflict between my wife and me. She thinks we should have spotify at the same time she has no interest "looking after it". Just likes the idea.
