Any thoughts on pit-falls on buying a QNAP 251 NAS via amazon rather than locally in NZ.

The price is about 50% of NZ as it falls under the $400 threshold (just).

QNAP said they would honor the warranty here in NZ for the unit but I have also read online that they won't offer such an international warranty.

IMHO not worth the risk or inconvenience.

In NZ it comes with an "External Power Adapter, 60W, 100-240V" with an AU/NZ plug.

Does the US model have the 240V option?

It seems to have the same 110 to 240v power supply. So really I just need a travel adapter.

Had anyone imported one and did they have any issues?

KrazyKid: ..... So really I just need a travel adapter.

and that will make it unreliable, power pack/cable wobbling about on top of an adapter
Just want you want for the NAS, unreliable power :-)
If youre lucky it may just need a generic power cable that plugs into the power pack

Also, add it freight costs , as thats included in the $400 threshold.

NZ price isnt too bad,
