I have a Synology RT1900ac Router.

Loving it so far, the amazing features - QoS, excellent control panel and user interface etc.
But I'm having an issue.  ONLY with the Desktop.

So I have set parental controls, for example blocking Facebook during certain times.
It seems to be working fine across all the wireless devices, but on my desktop, it's not blocking anything.  Under the device list (it shows what devices are connected to the router), it's not even displaying as connected?

But it can still connect to the internet perfectly fine.

What's going on here?

Thanks!

Is your desktop set to obtain it's IP and DNS addresses by DHCP?

Thanks so much for your reply!  Sorry - I set this up a while ago and I'm sure I saw something, but could you please explain is thius something to do on the computer or on the router side?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

OK, found it - it's set to 'Obtain IP address automatically' and under DNS 'Use the following DNS addresses'.

Something wrong here or nah?

Have you set other rules for the the IP address that your desktop is assigned? They could be over-riding what you have for the parental controls. Have you assigned any DMZ's?

Are there any numbers in the "Use the following DNS addresses" fields?  If so, click on "Obtain DNS ... automatically".  If your Desktop is circumventing the router for accessing the internet, then it won't show up as connecting within the router or use any of its settings tongue-out

There were numbers under there, so I changed it to Obtain DNS automatically... still no luck :(

Did you reboot the Desktop? ... DNS cache might be 'sticking'.

How is your desktop connected? Wifi or lan cable?

Your not perhaps somehow connecting it to your ADSL modem (or what connection do you have?)

Connecting via LAN cable - my desktop is connecting to the modem router (I disabled the router functionality I think), and is getting internet.

So the desktop is not connected to the synology at all?

I would just assume it's like all the other POS routers out there (like the new linksys series) where the actual 'controls' are only on the wireless networks as it simply applies all the controls to a particular ssid and not to a true VLAN as such (which could be a mix of physical and wireless interfaces.)
