Greetings.

Im looking at upgrading my decent Vodafone Station to VDSL maybe a used Huawei HG659 ex Vodafone looks like the berries.

What Im wondering since Im on Flip, are features of these modems locked down with proprietary firmware eg there are Spark models and Vodafone models.

If yes, anyone have any idea whether the proprietary firmware effectively Locks it to its owner network. I believe Spark and Vodafone have VOIP locked down otherwise they appear to be fine.

Thanks.

The VDSL function is not locked on either firmware.

For me, the VoIP function on the Spark firmware didn't work on VDSL but does work on fibre.

Thanks for that. Huawei seems a good make; I have purchased a couple of their mobiles for my daughters and despite the cheap price their performance is excellent.

Also my current modem a Vodafone Huawei SHG1500 as soon as I installed it noticed an increase of download and upload speeds on ADSL of at least 20% over D-Link.

Am getting reliable throughput of 17Mbs on Flip ADSL.
